Book Review: Dotty Detective by Clara Vulliamy

Dotty Detective is a new series of books aimed at 5-8 year olds. The series focuses on the adventures of a curious schoolgirl sleuth called Dot, and her faithful hound McClusky.

In the first book we meet Dorothy Constance Mae Louise, or Dot as she prefers to be called. She loves super-sour apple sherberts, running fast and puzzles especially if they’re fiendishly tricky. The first Dotty Detective book is a brilliant book for young girls and boys. It’s written in a diary format which is a lot of fun. It’s got lots of great illustrations and scribbles to go with the story which are very enjoyable. The format is great and I love the variation in typography. It’s easy to read for kids and the layout is fun and creative but clear at the same time. I look forward to seeing the rest of the series soon!

Dotty Detective 1 by Clara Vulliamy is available from Amazon.co.uk and other shops that sell children’s books.
