Creating Space & Storage in A Shared Children’s Room

We only have two bedrooms in our house and two children so that means that they will have to share a room one day if we’re staying in this house. This is not something that I mind at all as I grew up sharing a room with two of my sisters. It was fun but if the room is on the small side, you have to be creative with your furniture choices to create as much storage and space as possible.

We have a Stompa UNO S Storage Cabin Bed at the moment and it’s great because it’s a bit higher than regular beds so there’s plenty of storage space underneath. It comes with storage shelves and cupboards to use underneath and you can fit boxes of things you use less frequently behind these. We have the kids’ clothes (the sizes that are too big or too small) under the bed and lots of other kids’ stuff too and even a large suitcase.

So how can you create more space and storage in a children’s room?Creating Space & Storage in A Shared Children’s Room A Mum Reviews

  • A bed with storage

This is definitely the best way and there are many options depending on the room, the age of your kids and how many kids you have. A bunk bed with extra storage on the side or underneath is great if you have two kids. You could also use a highsleeper for an older child or a midsleeper for a younger child as these create lots of space underneath for a desk, clothes and toys.Creating Space & Storage in A Shared Children’s Room A Mum Reviews

  • Build vertically

To get as much storage out of a room as possible and still have space to play and live in, it’s a great idea to build vertically. Use tall shelves and wardrobes and build extra storage on top of them. To make everything safe for the children, attach all tall furniture to the wall. You can even build shelves over door frames and windows for extra storage out of the way.Creating Space & Storage in A Shared Children’s Room A Mum Reviews

  • Add Extras

Add extra, smaller storage solutions to tidy away the clutter that usually comes with children. A small and narrow wall shelf on the wall near the bed is a great place for books and favourite toys and hooks on the wall and storage baskets with loops make it easy to get things off the floor quickly. You can hang pockets on the sides of the bed for more small things and a long storage net hung from the ceiling is a great way to store lots of soft toys without taking up much floor space. If storage is fun and easily accessible, kids will be much more likely to keep the room tidy too! A tidy room, means more space to play in.
