#LittleOneWears – Kidunk Kid Proof Play Clothes Review
Kids’ clothes have to be a lot of things at the same time but it’s rare that they manage to do it all. Regular waterproof clothes for playing in are usually quite dull and just focused on the functional aspects while other regular clothes are often too focused on fashion and not practical at all.
Autumn is truly here now and my eldest daughter is in pre-school three days a week and they always play outdoors in all weathers. Every day I pack her new Kidunk play clothes set in her backpack so that she’s well-equipped for playing outdoors even if it’s wet or muddy.
Kidunk clothes fill the gap between boring waterproofs and impractical but fun clothing and are comfy, water-resistant, lightweight, fun, stylish and easy to clean clothes that children can wear for all kinds of play that might mean they get messy. They’re ideal for water play, jumping in muddy puddles, forest adventures, camping, craft sessions and of course nursery and school.
You can use them indoors or outdoors and they are not only resistant to water but also to stains thanks to the Teflon coating. You buy the tops and bottoms separately and they can be worn on their own or together. When you wear them together, you can zip them together too to ensure that there’s no gap where cold air or water can get in. I really like this aspect!
Naturally, these clothes will get dirty — as they should! — but washing them is easy: just put them in the washing machine on a 40° wash and you can even tumble dry them on a low heat setting.
These clothes are practical and perform well. We’ve been testing them, playing in wet environments and running around jumping in muddy puddles. I usually avoid the grass in our garden when it’s been raining but I’m happy for my daughter to play on it when wearing these as I know she will not get wet or cold. She loves wearing her Kidunk set — she thinks they’re fun to wear and that they’re comfortable too. The set enables her to play freely without worrying about the weather.
The fabric is breathable which is important to me as I don’t want my daughter to feel sweaty underneath. The autumn/winter collection has soft, fleecy inners and are designed to have plenty of space for layering for colder days.
The bottoms are available in two colours (Ink and Flamingo) and the tops in four designs: Play, Splash, Happy and Smile. I think they’re all quite unisex! We have the Ink trousers and Happy top in size 3-4 as my eldest daughter is 3.5 years old. The trousers cost £19.99 and the tops £24.99.
The trousers have a comfortable, elasticated waist that keep them up on their own or when they’re zipped together with the top. The zip attachment sits on the outside of the trouser and is discreetly folded back so it doesn’t get in the way when not in use. The legs with reinforced knees have a concealed outer zip to get them over welly boots easily and an inner leg to tuck into the boots keeping little legs nice and warm. My daughter likes to tuck everything in though! The zips are chunky YKK zips that are easy for children to open if needed.
I especially love the fun designs of the tops! The Happy one has a lovely playful print in cobalt blue and ink, colour block styling in flamingo pink, marine blue and fun sunshine yellow appliqués. It’s got a Peter Pan style collar that makes it look stylish and fun. Again, the zips are hidden to protect the skin of your little one. The sleeves have elasticated cuffs and there are three poppers at the top on the back to make the top easy to put on and take off.
Other details that I appreciate are the large areas to name label your child’s Kidunk and the practical hanger loops. We use our Kidunk set at at pre-school too so these aspects are really useful for us!
They’re currently available in two sizes for 2-3 year olds and 3-4 year olds. I would love to see a size for 1-2 year olds too as my youngest is always joining her sister outside. She’s 16 months old now. At least she can wear matching wellies!
Kidunk sell wellie play shoes that are perfect for rainy and muddy adventures. They have a fleecy lining for comfort and a waterproof cuff with drawstring to make them extra protective. They are made from high-quality natural rubber and have a beautiful high shine finish.
They come in blue, red and yellow. I have always loved yellow rain gear as the happy colour brightens up any weather so my girls both have their wellies in yellow. The tread is deep for a good grip and the heels have reflectors to improve visibility in the dark. They cost £18.99 per pair.
The only detail that I would change is that I would make the top’s sleeves a bit longer as I think my daughter’s wrists will get a bit cold when she’s moving around a lot. I can get her some gloves or mittens that go a bit higher up on her arm to solve this though. The sets do not have hoods either so when playing in the rain, you’ll need to add a rain hat to keep water off the face.
There will be a spring/summer Kidunk range available in the near future, with detachable sleeves and legs. I can’t wait to see them too! Go to Kidunk.com to shop play clothes for your children.
We were sent a Kidunk set and two sets of wellies for this review. As always, all my reviews are 100% honest and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
