Perfect Burgers – The Sauces Make the Difference. With Tracklements
On our honeymoon in New York City back in 2012, my husband and I soon found our favourite restaurant in the city that we visited numerous times over our two-week stay in the Big Apple. The place is Joy Burger Bar which is, like the name suggests, a burger restaurant and what made it so brilliant is that it served just as impressive vegetarian burgers as meat ones which was great for my husband and I since I’m vegetarian and he’s not. We both enjoyed our meals equally and all sides, drinks and sauces were amazing too. This is why I mention this — the sauces. Joy Burger Bar’s motto is that the sauces make the difference and that is so true when it comes to burgers. The sauces do make the burger special and taste amazing!
We eat burgers quite often, especially in the summer, and we mainly eat vegetarian ones, either homemade or Linda McCartney’s Vegetarian Mozzarella 1/4lb Burgers which are delicious and the easier choice for a quick dinner. Last night, we had burgers but we had a little something that made a huge difference to the experience. Usually, I’ll have a bit of ketchup or BBQ sauce on my burger and my husband often goes for mayo on his but this time we had something much, much better — sauces from Tracklements.
Tracklements is an award-winning supplier of high quality homemade condiments since 1970 and they have over 60 artisan products to choose from. They are known as one of the UK’s top suppliers of all that is chutney, pickle and jam related produce and they have a great selection of products that are ideal for burgers too. I looked through the full product range before choosing three products to try on our burgers:
- Sweet Mustard Ketchup
- Cucumber & Sweet Pepper Relish
- Sticky Pickle Bruschettini
I love mustard and I love ketchup so was naturally drawn to the Sweet Mustard Ketchup (£3.10) and I am so happy with my choice! It’s sweet and has a bit of a kick and the sunny yellow colour is gorgeous! It’s made from a mix of wholegrain and smooth mustards, complete with some sugar and spices. It tastes absolutely amazing and is definitely a burger’s best friend. It also works beautifully on cheese sandwiches and in salads too. I love this product so much that it needs to become a staple in our cupboard — now that I’ve tried it, I can’t imagine having a burger without it. It’s the perfect burger sauce and replaces both mustard and ketchup.
The Cucumber & Sweet Pepper Relish (£3.80) is another great condiment that can be used as a sandwich pickle or on a burger. It’s tangy and sweet with a hint of sourness and it’s full of chopped juicy pieces of pepper and cucumber. It’s very tasty indeed and the little bit of mustard seed and chilli gives it a slight kick too.
The third condiment that I chose was the Sticky Pickle Bruschettini (£3.15) which is intended for bruschetta or to be added to starters or canapés. It’s a small pot of intense, rich flavour and it’s meant to be amazing with mozzarella, which is why I chose it for a burger. Also it’s got pickles in it which I love with burgers! We always top our burger with mozzarella so this worked beautifully.
For our burgers last night, I simply cooked the vegetarian burgers, then added a generous heap of mozzarella to melt over the burgers (that’s what all those crispy bits are), popped the burger on a sesame seeded bread bun and added the mustard ketchup to the top (on mine, I put it on the bottom as well) and added the bruschettini on the top of the burger. I followed with salad leaves and slices of vine ripened tomatoes, closed the burger and served it with french fries and a large dollop of the relish. After sampling the relish, I did decide to put that on my burger too and it was the best burger ever!
The sauces worked great together and really made the burger something quite special. The sauces make all the difference and Tracklements make brilliant and absolutely delicious ones! Next time, I’m going to try them on Halloumi & Portobello Mushroom Burgers.
