Best UK Camping Destinations for Families

Glamping or camping, outdoor activities are a great way to hide away from the world for a few days and get in touch with nature. With everything going on in the world right now, whether you get to travel to the United Kingdom to go camping or you’re just dreaming of or planning your next trip, we have a few suggestions on where to go.

  • Ruberslaw Wild Woods

Near the borders of Scotland we have Ruberslaw Wild Woods. It’s nestled at the foot of the mountain with the same name and has a beautiful view of rolling hills and forestry. It’s a great place to take the kids and you can choose to camp in the old-fashioned way or go glamorous and try glamping.

You’re guaranteed a good night’s sleep as per the campground rules, they enforce “Quiet Hours” which spans from 10pm to 8am to make sure everyone is well rested for the next day’s activities.

  • Gill Head Farm

As the name suggests, this camping location is on a family run farmland, which offers accommodation. You will be met with endless fields of flowers and grass with beautiful green mountains serving as your backdrop. There is nothing quite like this scene to induce a sense of tranquility.

Gill Head Farm offers three types of accommodations. You have camping pods where you don’t need to bring your own tents, self catering farmhouses which are actual properties, and of course, the old-school caravans and camping sites.

  • Cloud Nine Glamping

For those who have a hard time giving up certain creature comforts, Cloud Nine Glamping is a great option for you! It’s a great family camping site as it offers numerous outdoor activities that will tire out the whole crew. From swimming in the lake to kayaking, get in tune with nature and breathe in some much-needed fresh air.

Cloud Nine Glamping has most of what you need on site, with tents that include mattresses and everything you would have in a hotel room depending on the package you select.

  • Alexander House

Here in Scotland, Alexander House Glamping takes camping to a whole new level. With breathtaking views and endless flora and fauna to appreciate, not only is Alexander house a great camping location for a family trip, but it has also been an ideal choice for weddings, hen dos (bachelorette parties), and other catered activities and celebrations. There are tons of activities just waiting for you to enjoy.

  • Bert’s Kitchen Garden

For our next stop we head to Wales, where we take a stroll into another family owned location. They provide a place to “escape the everyday” as they put in their own words and a chance for busy city folks to get a digital detox.

Bert’s Kitchen offers their own large tents but it doesn’t hurt to have your own pop up canopy tent for here or any other location. The camping grounds are communal but very spacious, and large enough for your family to have some privacy.

The best part is the activities which include enjoying delicious and healthy meals with ingredients sourced from Bert’s Kitchen Garden and ending the day with a relaxing trip to their spa.

  • Camp Hox

Camp Hox is hosted by the Hoxton Hotel and features all the comforts and luxuries of their hotel rooms. What’s interesting about this camping site is it’s a pop-up concept that runs for the month of August of every year.

They supply lotus tents complete with comfortable beds, armchairs and even a coffee machine among other features. These tents are located in a field in Cotswolds, on the grounds of Eynsham Hall. It’s a little escape not too far from the city for a quick getaway.

  • Plush Tents Glamping

This is as close to old-fashioned camping in the woods as we could get. They take off-grid camping to a new level by providing a high quality yurt in the heart of their Yurt Village. Although the yurt is furnished with most of the creature comforts we are used to, the secluded location still offers plenty of opportunities for you and the family to kick back, relax and reconnect in nature.

  • Ten Acres Vineyard

I don’t know about you, but relaxing for some includes a glass of wine. For those who like to taste a good red or white, why not consider camping next to a vineyard? Welcome to Ten Acres Vineyard camping with your choice of glamping.

You will spend the night on sprawling green fields with trees in the distance to really let loose and relax. Since you’re right next to a vineyard, it’s only natural that there are vineyard and wine tasting tours included in some packages.

You’re also not too far from Winkleigh, a small village in Devon where you can enjoy local attractions such as an old WWII airfield.

  • Fidden Farm

Who knew that Scotland could be home to crystal clear waters? You’ll find a remote campsite of Fidden Farm just a short ferry ride from land. Being this close to the water, most of your days will be spent dolphin-watching and exploring the coastline.

  • Low Wray

If the sea is too far for you, why not try a lake – Windermere Lake to be exact, one of England’s most famous lakes in the district. Get ready for endless hours of water activities such as rowing, canoeing and paddle boarding.

You will set up camp on the shores of Lake Windermere and enjoy the quiet and peaceful sounds of slow flowing waters at night. If you are a light sleeper, you can choose to pitch your tent closer to the meadow near or below a tree.

Final Word

Camping serves to remind us of the wondrous things nature has to offer that we often forget to appreciate. It’s always good to get some downtime off-grid and just take a break from the busy buzz of the city. Keep in mind that camping has its risks and to always practice safety measures.
