Fuelbaby Review – A Unique Baby Bottle with Powder Compartment
Fuelbaby bottles are different from any other bottles that I’ve come across. The unique thing about the Fuelbaby bottle is that it’s got a powder container at the bottom that opens into a water compartment when you are ready to use it.
The two compartments are sealed by an agitator that is held in place by a silicone ring. By pressing the button on the bottom of the bottle, you release the agitator and the formula powder gets released into the water. Then you just shake the bottle to mix the formula and your baby’s bottle is ready. The agitator ensures that there are no lumps.
This means that you can prepare your baby’s bottle in advance in a clean and comfortable environment ready for it to be used out and about or for the night feed for example when preparing a bottle can be difficult. I love that you don’t have to touch the formula or any of the inside bottle parts to mix the milk — it’s the most hygienic way to prepare a bottle on the go!
All the parts of the Fuelbaby can be washed in the dishwasher and all bits except for the formula compartment can be sterilised in boiling water. The formula compartment can be cleaned in hot soapy water and sterilised in sterilising solution.
Each bottle comes with a powder compartment with an agitator — the fueler, an anti-colic teat suitable from birth, a protective cover and a leak-proof water chamber. The bottles are comfortable to grip for both adults and babies.
My 10-month-old accepted the teat and the bottle straight away which was nice! She’s breastfed but has had expressed milk since she was just a few weeks old and the occasional formula bottle too since we started weaning. She doesn’t accept all bottles but prefers the ones with nipple-like teats. The Fuelbaby teat is nice and soft and quite nipple-like! It doesn’t leak loads but is not spill-proof either — the milk drops out very slowly so you could never spill loads. You don’t need to change the teat flow as your baby gets older which is convenient and saves money too.
The Fuelbaby has an anti-colic air system to reduce the amount of air that the baby swallows which helps reduce the risk of discomfort due to trapped wind and gas. The bottle and all parts are of course free from BPA and any other toxic substances to be completely safe for babies. It’s a 240ml size which is nice and large to be useful with older babies too.
It’s a really clever bottle that is easy to use. It’s so convenient and hygienic on the go or for middle of the night feeds. It’s a great way to be prepared as a parent and avoid stress — just prepare the bottle in the comfort of your home when you have a minute and get the feed ready in seconds when you need it without worrying about counting scoops or sanitising your hands.
The fueler adds extra parts to wash and sterilise of course and I would love to see an alternative bottom to use at home with the bottle if you don’t need the fueler for all feeds. Like a plug that’s easier to wash. Due to the extra washing and not always needing a prepared bottle, it’s not our go-to bottle for using at home but it’s definitely the one I choose to take with us out if we need a formula feed with us.
You can buy extra fuelers (and teats) separately but each bottle comes with one. The Fuelbaby bottles are available in three gorgeous and bright colours — Green (Turquoise), Pink and Yellow. The packaging is lovely too!
I'm a mum in my early 30s with over 15 years of childcare experience working as a private nanny, babysitter and a few years as a nursery teacher. Now I've got my own family too! I love finding great products for mums and kids.
