Cats Can Improve Your Sleep & Make You a More Attractive Dating Prospect | AD

A bit of background noise or white noise can be really helpful when you’re trying to go to sleep. Thunderstorms, rain pattering on the windows, the gentle crackling of an open fire… These are all great but cat lovers swear by the sound of their cat purring to lull them to sleep, according to a new survey by Animed, the online pet care retailer. Read on for more findings from this survey of 1,000 pet owners.

Surprising Benefits of Owning a Cat

A whopping 76% of cat owners credit the comforting sound of their cat’s purr to help them fall asleep. But a good night’s sleep is not the only good thing about owning a cat, according to the study.

Men, who represent 25% of cat owners here in the UK, say that owning a cat makes you a more attractive dating prospect. 60% of the men surveyed said that being a cat owner demonstrates more empathy and emotional sensitivity compared to being a dog owner. These qualities appeal to a prospective partner.

Female cat owners share that owning a cat boosts their mental wellbeing. 80% agree that they reduce stress and 48% share that their cat helps them concentrate on their work and studies.

It’s Not All Purrs & Perfection

Though there are clearly many benefits to being a cat owner, it’s not all purrs and perfection. Most cat owners agreed that cats can be aloof and difficult to understand at times. Actually, over 60% share that they find their cat hard to engage with and 25% say that they wished their cat would display canine characteristics of love and devotion.

“Cat owners tend to love their cats for their idiosyncrasies”, says Animed vet Jess Simmonds. “While dogs on the whole are more expressive in their affection, cats are often more self-reliant and appear to share their living quarters with their humans rather than the other way around”!
