JayceeBaby Perfectly Padded Playmat Review + Video Demonstration
Children spend most of their awake time playing and therefore it’s important to ensure that they have somewhere comfortable to play. I used a playmat for my firstborn and it was a thin, floppy thing that I used to have when I was little! It was sentimental but not great…
I now have the JayceeBaby Perfectly Padded Playmat and the name describes it very well. It is indeed a perfectly padded playmat and so much more too! Let’s start with the padding. It’s a generously padded, 5cm thick playmat with 4 layers — Wadding, Soft Foam, Dense Foam and more Wadding — which makes it incredibly comfortable to sit or lay on.
This playmat is double sided with one side intended for babies and the other for toddlers. The baby side is the side with the softer padding and the toddler one the one with the firmer, dense foam.
This gorgeous playmat is not only supportive and multi-functional, it’s also large. It’s got a surface of 100 x 150 cm which allows plenty of room for playing or relaxing. It’s big enough for several children to play on which is great as I have two daughters who, mostly, love to play together.
Other great features include the water-resistant fabric that is easy to clean. My toddler has already spilt her drink of water on it and I can confirm that the material is very resistant to moisture. The cover is also removable and machine washable which is essential for a baby and toddler product. As you might know, kids are messy…
Speaking of messy, with your JayceeBaby Playmat, you also get a detachable plastic sheet that you can button onto the playmat on either side to protect the mat if you want to use it for any messy activities such as feeding, painting, colouring, PlayDoh etc. We’ve not used this feature yet as we have carpet everywhere but it will be great in the spring and summer when we can use it outdoors in the garden.
The playmat folds up for storage and you secure it with a sturdy strap that keeps it together when not in use. The strap system has a carry handle too that makes the mat really easy to move around. We keep our mat folded up in the small gap we have between my eldest daughter’s bed and the wall. It fits perfectly! Most of the time, the mat is out and is being played on though!
Let’s look more closely at the two different sides:
The Baby Side
This side’s softer padding is perfect for young babies. It’s great for tummy time and learning to roll over or beginning to crawl. There are lots of fun interactive elements across the mat with different textures and sounds to explore and the black and white patterns around the edge and on a couple of the pictures are perfect for engaging and stimulating newborns.
Other interactive elements include:
A large, removable baby-safe mirror behind crinkle doors.
Black and white squeaky balls. My girls love these!
A plush butterfly with crinkly wings and numerous textures. You can pull this out a bit too!
A shiny spiral thread on a snail’s shell
A colourful elephant tail to find and pull.
Smooth bubbles coming from the cute fish’s mouth.
Different flower petal textures for small hands to explore.
A cute, soft owl with a textured beak.
All the elements are very sweet and the animal characters are very cute! My girls love the butterfly and the owl the best.
The Toddler Side
The firmer toddler side is great for older babies or toddler on the move who are learning to crawl or walk. It’s got a fun picture on it with lots of details to discover and many objects to name. This supports toddlers as they learn to say new words and learn the names of different things.
The objects have the name written next to them so it’s also great for older children, like my eldest daughter, who are learning to read. You can use this side to create stories and encourage your children to engage in imaginative play, too.
Unlike the baby side, this side is smooth which makes it good to lay down on too. My girls turned the playmat into a relaxing bed by grabbing some pillows off the bed and a blanket. Then they played “nightnight” together and my eldest pretended to read a book to my youngest. Very sweet!
The playmat is very comfortable to lay on so I’m sure it could be used for napping on or even sleepovers!
Why We Love It
We love the generous size and perfect padding of this luxurious and high quality playmat. It’s practical with its removable and washable water-resistant cover and it provides children with comfort, support, entertainment, stimulation and educational fun. The quality is very high and the standard of craftsmanship is too.
The Jaycee playmat has a new RRP of just £125 now which is amazing for the quality!
The mat can be used for so many years too — from birth and onwards, so the value is good. My eldest is nearly four years old and she loves it at this age and I’m sure she’ll be interested in it for a few more years. My youngest is 18 months old and is just learning to say lots of words so she’s enjoying the toddler side with lots of different words to repeat and practice. She still loves the interactive features of the baby side too.
The only thing I would change is that I would love a travel bag to protect the mat when in storage or when travelling. Other than that, it’s quite perfect and definitely perfectly padded!
