The right socks can make a huge difference to how you feel when doing different activities – whether you are at work/school, heading out on a hike, going for a run, or simply relaxing at home. Comfort and functionality are both important aspects of the best socks. My family and I have been testing some excellent socks from Panda Food. Read my review below to find out more about our new super soft luxury bamboo socks!

About Panda Food

Panda Food is a small, independent British bamboo sock brand. The brand has a simple mission: to make the best bamboo socks in the world!

Panda Food was founded in London in 2023 with this clear aim. Being tired of socks that slipped, bobbled, and made feet hot, the process of creating genuinely better, premium socks that are softer, more breathable, and kinder to the planet began. 

All Panda Food socks are designed in London, made from bamboo, are fully seamless (there’s no annoying toe seam!) and they all feature a non-binding cuff. Every Panda Food order arrives in 100% plastic-free packaging: recyclable, compostable, and good enough to gift. 

The care instructions are to wash at 30 degrees Celsius and to avoid tumble drying and fabric conditioner.

Testing Panda Food Socks

To get a good overview of what Panda Food offers, we wanted to try products from across their premium sock range. One of my daughters has the Bamboo Embroidered Animal Socks, my older daughter and I have split a pack of Bamboo Crew Socks, my husband has the Bamboo Ribbed Dress Socks, and I’m also using the Bamboo Cushioned Quarter Socks and the Bamboo Walking and Hiking Socks.

Let’s have a look at all the Panda Socks that we’ve tried in detail below. 

Bamboo Embroidered Animal Socks (UK 4-8)

For my younger daughter, I picked the Embroidered Animal Socks in the Capybara design, as a 3-pack in mixed colours Ivory/Blue/Pink.

There are also other available designs: Panda, Koala, Bee, and Sloth.

These all come in the mixed colours. The Panda design is also available in an all white pack of 3 and there’s also a 5-pack which includes white socks with all 5 animals.

The animal designs are embroidered onto the sock, not printed. Because the designs are made of thread and not ink, there’s no risk of fading or cracking. The embroidery is gorgeous and these socks are so cute! 

As well as being super cute, these socks are also wonderfully comfortable. The construction is fully seamless with a non-binding cuff. Additionally these socks have a cushioned heel and sole which does wonders for comfort. To quote my daughter: “They are so soft, it feels like I’m wearing my slippers!” 

The bamboo material is breathable and naturally resists smells too which is great for tweens and teens! Super comfortable, cute, and keep feet fresh – what’s not to love?

Bamboo Crew Socks (UK 4-8 and UK 7-12)

Next up the stylish Crew Socks. These are available in five different colours:

• Size UK 4-8: Ivory, Coral, and Sage
• Size UK 7-12: Ivory, Slate, and Charchoal

Choose between individual colours or mixed packs that include the three colours available in your size, in packs of 3 or 6. I would love to see the Slate and Charchoal colours available in the smaller size too.

My eldest daughter and I shared a pack of 6 because we both love wearing crew socks and were both keen to test these ones from Panda Socks.

Like the socks above, these also have a cushioned heel and sole, making them so comfortable. The super soft socks have the perfect mid-calf height and the colours are so pretty too. They’re perfect for everyday wear and great for both tweens/teens and adults.

I find these crew socks very comfortable and supportive – they’re like a hug for your feet. They work well for lots of different types of shoes too and even make my Converse All Star High Tops feel comfortable thanks to the lovely padding.

Bamboo Ribbed Dress Socks (UK 7–12)

The right socks are an important detail to a dressier outfit too – the details can really make an outfit. The Ribbed Dress Socks from Panda Food are ideal for men to team with a suit. The 200-needle knit (roughly double a high-street dress sock) provides a super smooth finish and the ribbed construction ensures that the sock holds its definition. Like all Panda Food socks, the design is fully seamless and features a non-binding cuff.

These socks are ultra soft, keep feet comfortable, and dry quickly after washing too. The bamboo material regulates temperature both ways, so wearers stay comfortable in a leather shoe all year round. 

The Ribbed Dress Socks from Panda Food are available in packs of 3 or 5 pairs, and come in Black, Navy Blue, or multicolour sets in Red/Yellow/Green and Black/Blue/Red/Yellow/Green. I personally love socks that provide a fun pop of colour together with a sleek suit. These socks have a bamboo design embroidered onto the cuff in a contrasting colour too. 

My husband is testing these socks. He normally wears men’s workwear socks but is gradually moving over to more stylish socks like these, especially for dressier occasions!

Bamboo Cushioned Quarter Socks (UK 4–8 and UK 7–11)

Now onto the Cushioned Quarter Socks which are ideal for everyday use but also for sports activities such as going to the gym or running, for example. These socks feature zoned cushioning under the strike point. They’re cushioned where it counts and breathable everywhere else thanks to cleverly positioned ventilation lanes which let the bamboo fabric draw any dampness away. Bamboo is also naturally odour-resistant and dries quickly which is great for socks for exercising. 

The fit is a quarter height that clears the shoe collar without climbing the calf. This works well in lots of types of shoes. Though they are cushioned, these socks are designed to fit in normal trainers. They are also fully seamless and the non-binding cuff is very comfortable for all activities. 

The Cushioned Quarter Socks from Panda Food are available in Black, White, Grey, or a Black/Grey/White mixed pack, in packs of 3 or 6 pairs. I have them in black, which is very versatile, and wear them for lots of different occasions – everyday wear, local walks, the gym, and the occasional run! I love them!

Bamboo Walking and Hiking Socks (UK 4-8 and UK 7-12)

Last, but definitely not least, the Walking and Hiking Socks from Panda Food. Hiking is my favourite hobby and something I am always excited to do. I also love having the correct gear for my hikes to ensure comfort no matter what challenges I need to face. 

Good hiking shoes/boots are one of the most important pieces of gear you need for hiking, soon followed by good hiking socks. My hiking boots are very comfortable but I do need to wear hiking socks with them for the right fit and comfort. So I always do! I look for hiking socks that are cushioned and that offer good support where needed. 

The Walking and Hiking Socks from Panda Food tick all the boxes and more. These seamless socks feature a cushioned sole and toe, full arch support, and ventilation lanes through the instep to keep feet at a comfortable temperature. The cuff stays in place well without gripping and the mid-calf fit ensures the socks fit above the collar of your walking boots for optimal comfort. The natural odour-resistance and quick-drying properties of the bamboo material are ideal for hiking too. 

I find these hiking socks absolutely brilliant! I’ve been testing them on hikes in the Peak District and in Scotland this summer, as well as on plenty of local walks, and am so happy with them. The Walking and Hiking Socks from Panda Food are now my go to hiking socks and I would be more than happy to grow my collection with more pairs in the future.

The Verdict

As you can see, we are big fans of Panda Food socks! The whole family is happy with their socks and we especially love the cushioned designs. The socks wash very well too which is important – they keep their shape, softness, and colour nicely. I wash at 40 degrees for things like this and even though that is 10 degrees warmer than recommended, our socks look absolutely fine after about a month of frequent use and washing.
