Parents are always on the lookout for simple ways to make everyday meals more nourishing, especially when feeding little ones who can be a little selective about what lands on their plate. We caught up with Piccolo founder Cat Gazzoli to find out more about the inspiration behind the launch and why bone broth deserves a place in family kitchens.

Q: Bone broth has become hugely popular with adults recently. What made you decide to create one specifically for children?

Cat: We noticed that parents were becoming increasingly interested in bone broth because of its nutritional benefits, but all of the products available were designed for adults. Many contain salt levels that aren’t suitable for younger children, so there was a real gap in the market.

We wanted to create something specifically for little ones using organic ingredients and keeping salt levels low, while still delivering great flavour and nutritional value. It felt like a natural extension of our mission to help families cook nourishing meals more easily.

Q: What makes Piccolo Organic Beef Bone Broth different from other bone broths on the market?

Cat: The biggest difference is that we’ve designed it with children in mind.  Our Organic Beef Bone Broth is made using organic, natural ingredients, is low in salt and ready to use straight from the pack. We’ve done the slow cooking, so parents don’t have to.

Q: Why is bone broth such a useful ingredient for families?

Cat: Parents are often looking for practical ways to boost the nutritional value of meals without spending hours in the kitchen. Bone broth is incredibly versatile and can be added to lots of dishes children already enjoy.

You can stir it into pasta sauces, soups, stews, risottos or purees, use it as a cooking liquid, add it to homemade recipes or even serve it warm as a savoury drink. It’s a simple ingredient that can make everyday meals more flavourful and nourishing.

Q: What nutritional benefits does the broth offer?

Cat: Our Organic Beef Bone Broth naturally contains protein and collagen. Each 100ml serving contains 2.9g of protein and 1.3g of collagen to be exact.

Protein contributes to the normal growth and maintenance of bones in children, making it an important part of a balanced diet. We wanted to create a product that helps parents introduce these benefits in a way that’s easy and accessible.

Q: Many parents go through phases of picky eating with their children. Can bone broth help?

Cat: Absolutely. One of the things I love about this product is how easy it is to incorporate into familiar meals. I have 3 young children so I am fully aware of how difficult it can be to get healthy meals into them. Being Italian, bone broth has always been my go to at home, as during picky eating phases, I simply stirred it into dishes my children already enjoyed, and they were none the wiser!

It works brilliantly as a “secret ingredient” because it adds flavour and nourishment without changing a meal dramatically. Sometimes it’s those small wins that make the biggest difference.

Q: Piccolo has built a reputation for helping families provide their children with organic and nutritional meals more easily. How does this new product fit into that philosophy?

Cat: Everything we create is about helping families prepare nutritional food with the best possible ingredients available to them, even when life is busy. We know parents want to cook nourishing meals, but they don’t always have the time to make everything from scratch.

Q: What do you hope parents will take away from this launch?

Cat: I hope parents see it as another tool that can make family mealtimes easier. There can be a lot of pressure around feeding children, but sometimes the simplest solutions are the most effective.

We created this product to help parents cook smarter by adding flavour and goodness into everyday meals in a way that feels realistic and achievable for busy family life.
