The Weekend Post #7 – Father’s Day & Magnum Ice Creams
Another weekend has passed and I’m joining in with the linky The Weekend hosted by Write Like No One’s Watching and A Rush Of Love. This week I’m on time! Father’s Day and family time. Oh, and LOTS of Magnum ice creams for me!
Friday night started with a quick shop to Asda to get the essentials: ice cream, wine and beer. After that our little girl and I had a girls’ night in with dinner and wine (for me) and lots of playing on the living room floor. Naptime had been late so bedtime was even later at 23.15… I managed to join in with the #Mblogchat for the first time and had fun with Becki from Dear Twans, With Love, talking about tea bag squeezing and cinnamon buns, among other things.
My dinner was leftover chilli with rice and cheesy nachos. Usually we don’t have rice and nachos but we had some left and we don’t waste food in our household. Dessert was, you guessed it, a Magnum ice cream.
Saturday started with milk and Peppa Pig and some playing before heading out to treat my father-in-law to lunch. We were smart and went for lunch the day before Father’s Day when it’s less busy. We went for a carvery at Toby’s Carvery and stuffed ourselves. Their vegetarian food is nice and I always go for the Brie & Broccoli Parcel and veggies from the carvery buffet. The little one loves Yorkshire puddings! One of the few things she will actually eat…
I might have had a big lunch but my metabolism is fast and there were more ice creams in the house so I had one in the afternoon. These new caramel ones are delicious!
Due to the big lunch, we hadn’t planned dinner very well and I ended up eating this slightly odd combination of Liberte yogurts and Dolmades, plus some dry roasted peanuts and a glass of wine. It was nice though! I might have had another ice cream later in the evening, too. Hey, it’s summer!
On Sunday we had some fruit and juice for first breakfast, followed by some proper breakfast (tea and toast!). We had one of those days filled with catching up on things around the house — some DIY projects, tidying and doing laundry. We also met up with family members to catch up with them too.
Did I really need more ice cream? Probably not, but I had a coupon at Shell to get £1 off any ice cream and it ran out on Sunday so I had to go get one. Poor me. I took the opportunity to try the new Magnum Black Espresso which I didn’t know if I’d like. I love coffee and dark chocolate but you never know. I LOVED IT! So nice. They cost £2.09 each usually though and that’s crazy when you compare to buying a box of 3 or 4 in the supermarket. The Caramel Magnums cost £1.75 for 4 in Asda and I believe these Black Espresso ones are on offer at two boxes of 3 for £4. Much better value! It was nice to try one though to see if I liked it before going for a big box but I wouldn’t have bought it without the coupon.
Enough about the ice cream… I’m not one for putting that much thought into my little girl’s outfits and usually just mix whatever ends up in my hand when I reach into her clothing drawers. This was an accidental outfit that turned out so cute though, so I have to share it. A tartan dress that’s a bit too small and is more like a tunic now, red leggings with buttons, navy socks and the cutest red shoes with the same navy coloured laces. She looked like a little adorable punk rocker! The outfit looked planned but just happened to match really well. My little tough girl.
This is our living room window on Sunday night. I love the light in this window, at all times of the day. After a yummy dinner of new potatoes, cheese stuffed garlic mushrooms and nut burger for me (steak for him), we actually managed to have some time together and watched a bit of telly at a normal hour. For once, the crazy toddler was asleep before 9pm!
