At the end of August, we headed over to Leeds to try out the Book FHR service. We visited the Britannia Leeds Bradford Airport Hotel and stayed for one night. We arrived for check-in time and parked up outside the hotel. Parking was included in our night’s stay.

We were greeted and got the key to our room. Our lock was a bit fidldy but only sometimes. The room was larger than expected, acceptably clean and well equipped. It had everything you might need: a tv, a desk, extra towels, extra pillows of different types, an iron with an ironing board, a trouser press, hotel toiletries and a tray with cups, glasses, a kettle, coffees, teas and sugar. It said decaf coffee was available from the front desk but when I asked for it the lady said they’d run out a long time ago which was a bit disappointing. I really fancied a coffee but didn’t want lots of caffeine late at night.

The furniture in the hotel is quite old and some of the pieces could do with replacing. The bed and the bedding was very comfortable which is important when you’re trying to catch some sleep before or after travelling.

The bathroom was okay. Like the rest of the hotel, it’s in need of a bit of an update. There was mold around the taps and in the corners of the shower/bath and the shower curtain had a mildewy smell too. A good scrub, some bleach and a hot wash would sort that out!

The actual shower itself was great and really powerful!

The view from the room was absolutely beautiful! Just fields and trees as far as we could see. The hotel is in a really nice area too, with a huge park/forrest with a walking trail nearby and a cute local pub.

Our deal included dinner and breakfast so in the evening we headed down to the dining area to have something to eat. As a vegetarian, there was only one thing on offer for me and that was a vegetable curry. Soup, bread, a small salad bar and a few desserts were available too. For people who eat everything, there were more choices and you could mix different things from the buffet and go back for more.

The evening meal was not great, I’m afraid. The food was bland and the bread really dry. Breakfast was much better!

We enjoyed the breakfast after a good night’s sleep. We were seated and asked if we wanted tea or coffee, then got the rest of our breakfast from the buffet. There were several types of cereal, toast, pastries, full English breakfast, fruit, juices, teas, yogurt and some meats and cheese. You could also order extra things like omelettes and vegetarian full English breakfast from the kitchen. A bigger choice of cheese and some more robust types of bread and it would have been quite perfect!

We would definitely use Book FHR again and for a one night stay before or after travelling, we would go back to the Britannia Leeds Bradford Airport Hotel, but we wouldn’t have our evening meal there again. Using Book FHR was a really smooth experience and when I phoned up to book, the staff was really friendly and helpful. The website is really easy to use and has lots of information about the services and the hotels.
