Nexar Beam GPS Dash Cam Review
|Nexar Beam GPS Dash Cam Review
We had been thinking about getting a dash cam for our car for a while so are excited to now have the Nexar Beam Dash Cam installed.
Since this is our first dash cam, I can’t compare it to anything else, but it was easy to set up and it’s quite straightforward to use too.
This model is the Nexar Beam GPS Full HD 1080P Dash Cam which is a very sleek and compact dash cam. It can easily be concealed behind the rear-view mirror which means it doesn’t obstruct your view when you’re driving which is of course very important with things like this.
The Nexar Beam GPS records crisp and clear 1080 full HD video with its super wide lens with an impressive 135-degree field of view.
The dash cam comes with a free 32GB microSD card installed but you can upgrade to bigger capacity (up to 256GB) if you wish. Nexar offers completely unlimited cloud backups without a subscription so that you can store your video clips from your drives in the cloud without any costs. This means that your footage can be accessed and viewed by you from anywhere. This is especially useful in case your dash cam gets stolen or damaged. You can also choose to just store the videos on your phone and set up a percentage of phone storage that the Nexar app is allowed to use.
Nexar also has a one-click report function which put relevant video clips and important data into a report which is handy if you have had an accident and need to quickly and easily submit insurance claims. You can even share these details with your insurance company or the police through the app.
Nexar has developed its own proprietary software and the companion app allows for live streaming of all video footage directly to your phone and uses AI to detect important moments and save them as easy to find clips.
When you are getting ready to go on a drive, you open the app to start the drive and then the dash cam will start recording. The live streaming of all video footage becomes available straight away in the app on your phone. This works quite smoothly but we did have an instance where the footage said it was unavailable when we arrived home and we think this was because the phone connected to our WiFi and broke the connection to the camera. We will investigate this further on future drives to see if we can work out what happened.
Other features includes a parking mode that can sense even the slightest impact to a vehicle and starts recording immediately, even when the car is parked for 24/7 security and a built-in G-sensor supporting variable sensitivity so that the dash cam can auto-detect any sudden knock or collision and lock the crucial footage and the built-in GPS module can link the location of the vehicle to the footage which can be very useful to prove things in the event of an accident. The app can also help you find the location of your parked car and you can set up Nexar Emergency Alerts that include the location, a dash cam video, and a one-tap link to reach emergency services.
We look forward to testing the dash cam further in our family car and will update the review with any new findings.
