Mamia and Pampers Nappies Size 4 – Reviews & Comparisons
Mamia and Pampers Nappies Size 4 – Reviews & Comparisons
Since my daughter was a newborn, I have been a fan of Aldi’s Mamia Nappies. We are now using Mamia Ultra-Dry in size 4 and are still very happy with them. I love trying different brands of things and have occasionally bought other nappy brands over the past year but so far we’ve always gone back to Aldi’s Mamia.
The other day I spotted Pampers Baby-Dry nappies in size 4 in Wilkinsons and they were reduced to half price making them pretty much the same price per nappy as Mamia. I thought this was a good time to see what the Pampers nappies were like in a bigger size. In this post I will compare these two nappy brands in this size and let you know which one delivers…
Here they are, side my side. Aldi’s Mamia to the left and Pampers to the right. They look quite similar here, size-wise at least.
The thickness is about the same and when you open them up like this (above) they look quite similar and feel pretty much the same too. They both have a faint chemical smell that most disposable nappies seem to have now.
When you open the nappies up further you can spot some differences. The Mamia nappies “wings” are much wider and offer more protection and the flaps where the Velcro is, is also much wider and gives Mamia a better fit. The Pampers flaps are really narrow and give the nappies a really high cut fit when on (like a Baywatch bathing suit…) that I think looks uncomfortable and makes the nappy more prone to leaks. The Pampers nappies’ absorbent padding goes higher up at the back so should be better at preventing against leaks on that end.
Both brands promise up to 12 hours of dryness meaning your baby’s bum and nappy should be nice and dry after a full night. We usually use Aldi’s Mamia and have never ever had a wee leak with them. We use them overnight for 12 hours and have never had a problem. Mamia nappies live up to their promise and really do offer 12 hours of dryness. The nappy feels dry and my daughter’s bum is dry and rash free after 12 hours in a Mamia nappy.
Over to Pampers. I’m very disappointed with these nappies. Not only is the fit bad but they don’t offer 12 hours of dryness or even half that. We tried one of these overnight and less than 12 hours later when my daughter woke up, her nappy was soaked and wet on the outside and had leaked through her cotton sleepsuit and her thick fleece sleepsuit, too! If she’d slept any longer, I’m sure her mattress would have been wet too. We decided to only use these nappies in the day until we run out but they’re not great for daytime use either. They only last a couple of hours before feeling damp on the outside and leaking through to my baby’s clothes. Now we can only use these at home until our stock runs out and we will definitely not buy these nappies again. I’m so glad I didn’t pay full price for them. We also discovered that my baby’s bum and genitals went red after every time she’d worn one of these — no matter if she wore it for 2 hours or 12.
I don’t mind the brand Pampers at all — actually their baby wipes are among the best ones on the market — but these nappies are just not good enough and do not live up to their promises. They also cost about twice as much as the Aldi’s Mamia nappies. My trusty Mamia nappies fit really well, are super soft and really absorbent. I will stick with them! They do what they say they will and are priced really reasonably. Thank you Aldi for keeping my baby dry! You don’t always get what you pay for — sometimes you get more and sometimes a lot less.
This review is referring to these particular styles of nappies and these sizes only. We have since tried Pampers pull ups and have not had any rash problems or extreme leaks with them.

I don’t think this is a true comparison you are an aldi nappy user so naturally you will favourite that brand. I have personally used both aldi and pampers baby dry in size 4 I’ve tried other brands too and spoke to many other mums about the big question what nappies are best but never herd of a nappy brand that leaks every time you use one I don’t believe you not even the really cheap crap ones do that pampers baby dry and aldi ultra dry are both ok nappies. Review should really be by a new mum that’s not in love with one brand
Hi Caroline! I’m not in love with Aldi’s nappies. They are just better than all the other brands that I have tried in all different sizes so far. I gave Pampers another go since I hadn’t used them since newborn size and this is my honest experience with these particular Pampers nappies. They do not absorb wee well at all and for us they only last a couple of hours and absolutely not overnight. Most mums will have a favourite brand of nappies that work the best for THEIR babies.
If the Pampers nappies had lived up to their claims I would have said that in the review. I’ve had problems with other nappies before – Sainsbury’s own brand were the same and could not be trusted for more than a couple of hours.
I’m glad you have had a better experience with Pampers Baby Dry than we have. This is my own experience with the product and my truthful review of how the product worked for us.
And of course I can compare new products to products I already use – it’s still a true comparison. Pampers might have turned out to be loads better than Aldi’s Mamia nappies.
It’s a review. Take it or leave it.

Thank you! :)
We are Aldi fans here too. I just wish we had one closer to us. I don’t mind pampers for during the day but find they don’t last well through the night and feel much heavier in the morning for some reason than the aldi’s. Thanks for comparing. Great idea. Truly #KidTested !
Thank you! :)
I used pampers up until Size 3, then i started trying alternatives as people recommended a lot of the cheaper brands and told me they were just as good, then i decided to give aldi nappies a try as so many people i knew said they were better and so much cheaper than any other brand, after going through 1 single pack of the Size 4 Mamia nappies i noticed my babies bum was a lot wetter when changing her and the nappies were leaking with both wee’s and poo’s! This then also lead to my baby getting a rash and as the mamia nappies were hardly absorbent at all they made her bum bright red and sore which made her scream in pain with every nappy change and we had to paste on the sudocrem, these nappies were left not longer than an hour or 2 between every nappy change and still couldn’t hold the moisture in for that time which i though was rediculous and they certainly didn’t last throughout the night, i have now since switched back to pampers and i’ve never had this problem since and my baby stays dry and rash free
Hi Chloe, I think it’s really interesting how it can be so different for different people. Maybe we both got unlucky and got a faulty batch of nappies. I have since tried different types of Pampers (the pull up ones) and they work much better than the Pampers ones in this review.
I’ve never had a problem with the Aldi ones myself and we’ve used them in all sizes from size 1 to 5.
Both brands are really popular so they must work well with whoever is buying them. For us, Aldi works the best and the price is brilliant too. I’ve recently tried the Tesco value nappies and they are really good too but I don’t have a Tesco near me so only buy them if we’re driving past one. Have you tried them?
Thank you for commenting! x
I agree with Caroline, something is up with your review. I have 5 boys and have never had a problem with pampers baby dry !
Hi Sher, thank you for your comment. Nothing is up with my review. My review is just my experience. I have a girl – maybe they work better with boys? Or it could have just been a bad batch of nappies.
Like I mention at the bottom of the post, I have since tried other nappies from Pampers without the same issues. But Mamia nappies are the best at keeping my daughter dry for a long time and she never leaks when she wears them.
We all have different experiences and this is mine. I’m glad you have a better experience of Pampers nappies! :)
I’d have to completely disagree with your review I’m afraid. I used Aldi’s nappies until size 4 when the product changed and they constantly leaked. This is when we have pampers baby dry a go and I love them. They’ve not once leaked, even after 12 hours overnight. They also keep the moisture away from her skin and she’s not had nappy rash once since using them. I think it’s important to remember that this is a review based on one persons experience and simply because it’s an online blog doesn’t mean the same is true for the wider population, i.e. don’t believe everything you read online, give it a go for yourself!
Thank you for you comment, Catherine! I completely agree with you – this is just my experience and not everything that works for one person works for everybody else. You have to try things yourself too, to see what YOU think and how something works for you.
There are loads of people of absolutely love Pampers nappies and get on with them really well and then loads that feel that way about Aldi Mamia nappies. Babies are different from each other and have different body shapes and weeing habits and things like that can have a huge impact. Who knows, maybe my next baby will be completely different from my first one?
I’m glad you get on with using Pampers. I’m not a spokesperson for any particular brand, I bought these nappies myself. I want all mums to find the right nappies for them and their family no matter which brand they are and the best way of doing this is by trying a few different options and seeing which ones you like the best. x
Thank you for the review I thought it might of been just my baby but I used newborn pampers and they were awful . I have a boy and he was constantly leaking and had to change his baby grow every few hours . My mother tried them too and found the same problem so I decided to try mamia and asda brand and they were so much better not one leak and stay tried all through the night :) pampers is a no for me & I’ll never use them again
I’m glad you found a brand that works for you! And that is cheaper too! :)
It’s so strange with Pampers, they seem to work well with some babies and not at all with others. xx
Thanks for this review. I was just googling mamia size 4 because my 3 months old baby is due to move onto her next size and was wondering if mamia 4 is good. I like mamia size 1 and 3. However size 2 I experienced many poo splatters at the back. Pampers 2 had more coverage on size 2. I don’t think pampers baby dry is that bad. I use pampers size 3 baby dry at night and had no leaks. I use mamia 3 throughout the day and no leaks either. Aldi mamia is definitely good. Pampers baby dry is also very good. But the normal pampers nappies are really crap.
Thank you for your comment!
It’s so interesting how different sizes of the same brand can be so different. Glad both Mamia and Pampers Baby Dry work well for you!
I’ve used some Pampers Newborn nappies in the past couple of weeks and they have been fine too! x
I have always used pampers and they have never leaked or caused my daughters skin to become red.
That’s great to hear! I know they can’t have the same effect on all babies because Pampers is a really well selling brand and if that was the case nobody would buy them. :) But they didn’t work on my firstborn. Thank you for your comment! x
I agree aldis nappies worked better for us and theynever leak I wasnt impressed with pampers over rated and leak often
Thank you for sharing your experience! :) x
Since my grandson born we are using mamia size 1 then 2 then 3 now 4 ,it’s brilliant nappy .we are happy and I like to do shopping in my local Aldi.Thank yo
Thats’ great to hear! :)
