Laugh Your Way into the New Year – Win DVD Bundle! #NewYearNewYou
Happy New Year! This month, I’ve been challenged to try something new by watching films that I wouldn’t normally reach for. I’ve chosen to go down the comedy route as I think funny films are just what you need in winter to cheer up the dark nights.
I’ll be trying something new and will watch some funny films to help beat the January blues! Find out how you can win the same bundle further down at the end of this post.
Hopefully, I will be laughing myself into the new year as I watch these five funny films:
“Goldie Hawn enlists in the army after her second husband dies on their wedding night. However, the army is something of a culture shock for the spoilt rich woman and she must summon up hidden reserves to deal with the Captain, who has taken an instant dislike to her.”
“Comedy and horror unite in this tale from director George Miller based on the John Updike novel. Three bored and sex-starved women (Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer) get together once a week for drinks and to fantasise about their ideal man. The morning after one of these sessions, a mysterious man arrives in town in the form of filthy rich Daryl Van Horne (Jack Nicholson), who buys a nearby mansion, and then seduces the friends one-by-one. They do not at first know that Van Horne is in fact Satan in disguise but when his cover is revealed the women plot their escape.”
“It is 1985, and Robbie Hart (Adam Sandler) makes his living as a singer at wedding receptions. When he is jilted by girlfriend Linda (Angela Featherstone) on his own wedding day, however, Robbie’s musical performances degenerate into bitter tirades. Robbie’s career is rescued by waitress Julia (Drew Barrymore), who asks him to help with the preparations for her own impending nuptials. Robbie and Julia begin to fall for each other, but neither reveals their feelings – even though Robbie knows that Julia’s fiancé is cheating on her.”
4. Blended
“Blended marks the third comedy collaboration between stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, following their successful onscreen pairings in the hit romantic comedies 50 First Dates and The Wedding Singer.
After a disastrous blind date, single parents Lauren (Barrymore) and Jim (Sandler) agree on only one thing: they never want to see each other again. But when they each sign up separately for a fabulous family vacation with their kids, they are all stuck sharing a suite at a luxurious African safari resort for a week.”
“There’s a right way to be single, a wrong way to be single, and then…there’s Alice. And Robin. Lucy. Meg. Tom. David. New York City is full of lonely hearts seeking the right match, be it a love connection, a hook-up, or something in the middle. And somewhere between the teasing texts and one-night stands, what these unmarrieds all have in common is the need to learn how to be single in a world filled with ever-evolving definitions of love. Sleeping around in the city that never sleeps was never so much fun.”
This bundle has three classic comedy films and a couple of new ones. It will be interesting to compare Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore in The Wedding Singer and Blended! I’ve seen Witches of Eastwick but it was a long, long time ago and I have seen How to Be Single but I want to watch and re-watch all these films. Have you seen these films? Which one’s your favourite?
