Quick Jobs You Can Do to Make Your House Cleaner & Tidier
Cleaning is not something we all enjoy but something most of us have to deal with unless we have a maid cleaning service! The daily jobs soon pile up and it can be quite dull doing the same jobs over and over. Some days, I really struggle to get the motivation to clean and the tasks can seem quite overwhelming at times.
On the days when I really don’t feel like cleaning, I divide the tasks up into small chunks that take just a few minutes each but really make a big difference to the state of your home. You can do just one at a time or see how you get on ticking them off the list as you get going.
Quick Jobs For When You Really Don’t Feel Like Cleaning
- Empty & Fill the Dishwasher
This is one of my least favourite jobs — mainly because our dishwasher doesn’t dry the dishes very well. Once your dishwasher is empty, cleaning the kitchen is such a breeze and you pretty much just have to put the dirty dishes in and then wipe down the surfaces.
- Clear Your Sink
If your sink is full of dishes that can’t be washed in the dishwasher, fill it up with soapy water and just wash them to clear your sink. When you’re done, give the sink a quick scrub and shine. An empty, clean sink will make your kitchen look better instantly!
- Gather Stuff & Clear Your Surfaces
A clean and clear surface makes any room look organised and clean straight away. This is true for tables, worktops, shelves, side-tables, windowsills, nightstands… Just gather all the little bits and put them back where they belong and go over the surfaces with a microfibre cloth and cleaning spray if needed and your home will feel calmer and more organised.
- Empty the Bins
One of the fastest jobs that I do when I feel the house needs a bit of a quick spruce up, is to empty all the bins and get all the recycling out. It freshens up the room and gets rid of clutter.
- Bathroom Wipe Down
Giving the bathroom a quick clean can take just minutes. Spray the bath, shower door, sink, mirror, toilet, floor and any surfaces in there with a multi-purpose cleaner and wipe them all down with different micro-fibre cloths (always a separate one for the toilet of course!) and rinse the bath/shower. Super-quick and efficient. Add fresh towels too!
- Desk Declutter
A messy desk makes you less productive and doesn’t look great either. Take a few minutes and put paperwork where it belongs and recycle anything that you no longer need. A quick wipe-down of the desk and the technology and you’re done.
- Put the Clean Laundry Away
This is another job I don’t really like but I find that if I put the things in piles for each person as I fold after the dryer/airer, then the job can be done really quickly and efficiently.
- Get a Wash Load on!
If I feel really tired and unmotivated to clean or am swamped with work, the very least I will do is get a wash load on. It takes seconds but at least you have accomplished something around the house!
- Put the Toys Away
If you’re a parent, I’m sure you’ll have toys spread all over the house! Quickly put them away where they belong for a calmer and tidier home — or even better, get the kids to do it!
