Silly Greens Grow Your Own Microgreens Subscription Boxes
|Silly Greens Grow Your Own Microgreens Subscription Boxes
Microgreens are herbs and vegetables that are eaten when they are small seedlings. They’re quick and easy to grow on a sunny windowsill (especially with a Silly Greens kit!), nutritious and delicious. They can be added to a variety of meals. They add texture and flavour to the dish as well as being a colourful garnish.
Silly Greens is a company that makes it easy for you to grow different microgreens at home. It’s a sort of veg box except people do their own growing and the crop is tiny.
Your box arrives through your letterbox, and you simply open it up, remove the lid and put the box (which is now a growing tray) where you want it. Near a window/on a windowsill works best. Leave the card cover on until the microgreens have germinated and started growing a bit and start pushing it up. This makes the plants stronger!
Silly Greens microgreens are sown in a seaweed jelly to grow which means that they can be sent out pre-germination. This makes them easier to post out to people, makes the microgreens grow better and means that they need less watering too.
I have had two Silly Green deliveries now and have been so impressed with how quickly the microgreens start growing and how well the thrive. Perfect for impatient people like myself!
Once your grow-your-own-microgreens have grown, enjoy them sprinkled over a meal. They’re great for adding to salads now that it’s summer but can of course be enjoyed with hot meals too and all year round.
You get 3 different microgreens per box and each box is different from the last. Choose to have a box delivered every week, every 2 weeks, every 4 weeks, or every 6 weeks. They cost just £5 per box with free delivery.

Collaboration.
As much as I liked the concept I have also had 2 deliveries. They did not look anything like the pictures and had just not been seeded or packaged properly.
Each delivery has 3 separate single use plastic trays which I thought was a bit excessive these days.
The trays loaded with jelly and coconut coir on my last one are pretty weighty – about 700grams. The carbon footprint of posting these out to grow a sprinkle of microgreens is a little crazy in my opinion. In my experience they either didn’t grow or all the seeds had been dislodged through posting.
Thank you for your comment. Sorry to hear that the boxes disappointed you. The plastic trays are recyclable but still single use so I also think that could be improved if possible with jelly situation! I’m sure Silly Greens would be happy to hear your feedback if you get in touch with the team. :)
