Veganuary Chocolate Wars: Vegan vs Regular Chocolate Taste Test
|Veganuary Chocolate Wars: Vegan vs Regular Chocolate Taste Test | AD
As part of Veganuary I have taken part in a fun taste test, sampling vegan LoveRaw chocolate and comparing them to regular chocolate. All the products arrived unbranded for a fair test and the products compared are very similar in style too to make it a fair comparison.
I love chocolate and eat both vegan options and regular options. Having sampled LoveRaw vegan chocolates and chocolate bars last year, I already knew how amazing they were but I was intrigued to test them alongside the products that they were inspired by. The results are quite interesting…
Not only is LoveRaw chocolate plant based, it’s also free from palm oil and artificial ingredients unlike most conventional chocolate bars which is great of course!
Let’s get started and see what I thought about the different samples:
Ferrero Rocher Style Chocolate Balls
- A1: Darker, rich chocolate and with more intense flavour of hazelnut.
- A2: Milkier chocolate which is less distinguished. Sweeter inside which disguises the hazelnut flavour.
I believe these are a LoveRaw M:LK CHOC NUTTY CHOC BALL and a Ferrero Rocher. I love both these products normally, but have never eaten them side by side before. I preferred the A1 sample when comparing the two because of the more intense but natural hazelnut flavour. It simply tasted like it was better quality.
Milk Chocolate Wafer Bars
- B1: Thin milky chocolate, very sweet inside. The overall flavour is just sweetness, not much else. The layers all blend into one when you eat this one.
- B2: Darker, thicker chocolate which tastes good. Thicker wafer on the inside with more crunch. You can taste all the different layers much better in this one.
I believe these are a Kinder Bueno and a LoveRaw M:LK CHOC CRE&M WAFER BAR. I am not quite as familiar with these as I am with the chocolate balls above but have had both before. I preferred the B2 bar as it had better texture, with distinguished layers and superior flavours.
White Chocolate Wafer Bars
- C1: Very creamy white chocolate outer layer, nice crunch and great nutty flavour on the inside.
- C2: The coating on the bottom and the stripes on top is a weird texture and this completely takes away the creaminess and flavour of the white chocolate. The inside is very sweet but also has a bit of a bitter aftertaste somehow.
I believe these are a LoveRaw WHITE CHOC CRE&M® WAFER BAR and a Kinder Bueno White. I’m not normally a fan of white chocolate but found the C1 sample very pleasant.
The results are in…
I felt like a chocolate detective whilst sampling these, carefully considering all the details, flavours and textures and comparing them to the other sample. I identified all the chocolates correctly and am pleased to say that the LoveRaw options were my favourites for all three comparisons! Even though I knew that I loved LoveRaw Nutty Choc Balls, it surprised me that I preferred them compared to Ferrero Rocher. I always thought of Ferrero Rocher as luxurious chocolates but now I know that LoveRaw Nutty Choc Balls are better!
It was fun comparing the wafer bars too and noticing the quality, texture and taste differences so clearly. I have since learnt that LoveRaw wafer bars have a much higher nut percentage compared to Kinder Bueno bars which explains why the nut flavour is so much better.
Vegan or not, if you haven’t yet tried the chocolate treats from LoveRaw you really should!
Collaboration.
