Voxblock is a brilliant audiobook player for kids. It’s different from other children’s audiobook players on the market in the way that it’s completely screen-free and Wi-Fi-free too. From a parent’s point of view, I think this is brilliant as it makes listening to audiobooks an activity that has nothing to do with the internet nor any screens. We have been using Voxblock for quite some time now – first the first edition of the player and more recently the new one. This is my full Voxblock review – read on to find out more about how it all works. 

What is a Voxblock player?

Voxblock is a screen-free audiobook player that has been designed to be easy to use for all age groups. It was created by parents for their own young children but it can be enjoyed by children of all ages, teens, and grown-ups too.

How does Voxblock work?

The audio is stored on the audiobook blocks that look like miniature books. As soon as you slot one into the player, it automatically starts playing. You can switch between books and the Voxblock player will return to where you left off last time.

The player has only got a few simple buttons, making it really easy to use. On/Off/Play/Pause all on the same button, Volume up and down, previous chapter and next chapter (also rewind and fast forward).

Plus, the Voxblock player has a handy bedtime mode that plays an audiobook for 20 minutes before entering standby mode and turning off.

What is Voxblock’s token scheme?

Vockblock has a token scheme which is a loyalty program where customers earn a token for each audiobook purchased. With your first order you get a token card to stick your Voxblock tokens to. Once you have collected 10 tokens, you can redeem them for a free audiobook of your choice.

Simply select an audiobook that you would like and fill out the details on the token postcard and send this to Voxblock (you will need a stamp for this too). A few days later, your chosen free Voxblock audiobook (along with a new collection card) will arrive in the post. 

What do the different colour lights mean on the Voxblock player?

The lights on the Voxblock player mean different things:

• No light = Off or Standby
• Blue light = Paused or no audiobook block in the player
• Green light = Playing
• Orange light = Bedtime mode
• Pink light = Travel mode

The battery light is green when the Voxblock player has enough battery, red when it needs recharging, and the light flashes green when it’s charging.

New version and previous version comparison

The new model of the Voxblock player has some features that differs from the previous model. Let’s compare some of the features between the models below. In the photos above, you can see a player with a red bumper (the first model) and a player with a green bumper (the new current model).

My tween is the child in my family who has the most experience using Voxblock. She loves that the new model has the option to fast forward and rewind. She also says that the buttons on the new model are much better and easier to use in the dark as you can feel the raised buttons much better. The new Voxblock player has got some great additional features compared to the previous version.
