|5 Most Common Skincare Mistakes
Having a good skincare routine is essential these days. Taking good care of your skin is as important as taking good care of the rest of your body. But as we formulate the perfect daily routine for our skin, some of us are blissfully unaware of the most common beauty mistakes we are making that could greatly affect the health and quality of our skin.
These common mistakes can leave our skin suffering, without us even realising due to the everyday routine we have wired ourselves into.
There is no need to fear, we are here to fill you in on the most common skincare mistakes so that you don’t fall into the skincare blunders we all try so hard to avoid.
- Not performing your skincare routine quick enough after cleansing
Not many people know this but after cleansing your skin, you are meant to apply an alcohol-free toner and moisturizer immediately after within sixty seconds of cleansing. If you leave your skin for more than a minute, then it starts to dehydrate and the dry sucks the moisture out of your skin. So be quick when it comes to applying your products!
- Not using the right products for your skin type
A skincare blunder that many of us make is not using the correct skincare products for our skin type. Everyone’s skin is different and has unique needs. Before using a product, check out what type of skin it is formulated for. Be cautious and wary If it made ‘for all skin types’ as it may not serve the needs of your particular skin. If you are looking for effective results, invest in skincare products specially formulated for your skin’s needs.
- Not wearing enough sunscreen, on a daily basis
The number one cause of premature aging skin comes from too much exposure to sunlight and UV rays. Most of these rays come from incidental exposure. So there are times when you don’t feel like you are being exposed to damaging rays such as; sitting in your office, driving your car or taking a walk on a cloudy day, and not feel like you need that much skin protection. Wrong! If you want to prevent your skin from premature aging and getting wrinkles that you need to put on SPF 365 days a year, whatever the weather.
- Washing your skin with a bar of soap
No matter how expensive or fancy the bar of soap is, using it on your skin immediately strips your skin off of all it’s moisture. This can lead to dead skin cell build up. Soaps contain a high pH balance due to the binders that hold a bar of soap together, making it drying for most skin types. They also reverse the benefits of any exfoliators you are using, such as facial scrubs, as they are intended to remove dry skin cells. Using a bar of soap to wash your face is a huge NO, look for sulphate-free and soap-free gel cleaners.
- Over-moisturizing
Adding multiple layers of moisturizer to your skin is not the same as switching to a creamier and more nourishing moisturizer. Applying thicker coats of moisturizer will only leave your pores clogged up and be a waste of the product. Your skin can only absorb so much!
