BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Mini Review – The New Soft Selection
|BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Mini Review – The New Soft Selection
I’ve been using BabyBjörn baby carriers for many years now and I get on really well with the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier One. The BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Mini Soft Selection was released early this year, just in time for the arrival of my third baby girl. I really liked the idea of a baby carrier designed specifically for the early days, weeks and months of your baby’s life when a regular baby carrier is just a bit too big. I’ve been using the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Mini in Pearly Pink 3D Mesh since my littlest girl was about 3 weeks old but it’s suitable from birth.
The BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Mini is a small, easy to use and supersoft baby carrier that’s great for newborn babies but that can also be used until around 12 months (min. 3.2 kg, max. 11 kg, inward facing until 5 months of age). Most young babies crave a lot of closeness to their parents and a baby carrier is a great way to let your baby be close to you while also freeing up your hands to be able to get things done.
This baby carrier is designed to be easy to use for frequent short baby wearing sessions which is the typical use with a newborn baby who sleeps for short periods of time, waking up for feeds, nappy changes and cuddles.

The shape and soft fabrics are designed to gently hug your baby’s back, legs and hips and provide good support and encourage the natural position of a newborn baby. The Mini lets you carry your newborn high up on your chest, close to your heart, so that they can hear it beating like they were used to in the womb. (This is also the perfect position as it lets you sniff your newborn’s head whenever you wish!) The baby carrier has also got great head and neck support for a newborn and this can easily be adjusted as your baby grows.
The size of the whole baby carrier can be adjusted too as you can see in the video above.
One of my favourite aspects of this baby carrier is that it’s so easy to use! It only has a few buckles which makes it really easy and quick to put on. The back straps are separate from the front section which means you can easily take the whole front off to lift out your sleeping newborn without waking him or her up. The shoulder straps are sturdy but slim without any big buckles on the back so you can comfortably wear them when out under your coat or jacket, ready to attach the front when needed.
Another thing I love is how compact this baby carrier is. It’s barely takes up any space at all which makes it really easy to fit into changing bags or under the pram when it’s not in use. It’s so handy! You can always take it with you as space is never an issue as the carrier is so compact and lightweight.
My baby is 8 weeks old now and can use our BabyBjörn Baby Carrier One too but I still choose the Mini a lot. The Mini is my go to choice when we’re out and about and I’m planning to use our pushchair (we use a Doona at the moment) but I want to option to carry her if needed. The compact Mini can easily be tucked into a bag and reached for when needed.
I also use it a lot at home when I need to settle my baby and hold her close to me but want to/can sit down soon after. As the Mini doesn’t have lots of buckles, it can be used comfortably sat down too. I use it frequently when working on my computer or eating dinner etc.
When she was really tiny, my baby liked to have her arms tucked in like this too.
The BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Mini is great for the early months and beyond for the occasions described above. As your baby grows and gets heavier, it will not be supportive enough for carrying your baby for longer periods of time as it doesn’t have a waist belt or very padded shoulder straps but that’s fine because it’s not designed for that. It’s designed for the start of your baby’s life and the lifestyle most new parents have during this time.
When your habits change and you need to be able to carry a heavier baby for longer, the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier One is a great choice as it’s got the waist belt and padded shoulder straps and more functions. It is ergonomic and will let you carry your child until they’re about 3 years old. Now that my baby is a bit bigger and heavier, I choose the One carrier when I’m planning to walk around for longer carrying her and the Mini as a carrier back up when we’re out with the pushchair or when I plan to sit down soon.
I really like the Mini and though it can’t be used for as long as the other BabyBjörn carriers, I think all the brilliant features make it a great product to buy and use during your baby’s first year. Then you can always pass it onto a friend or family member with a new baby.

The BabyBjörn Baby Carrier comes in a wide range of colours and three different fabric types. The new Soft Selection comes in two colours — Pearly Pink 3D Mesh (the one that we have) and Dove Blue 3D Jersey. The third fabric option is Cotton. The fabrics have been specifically developed for BabyBjörn carriers and newborn babies. The Mesh and Jersey options are 3D fabrics which consist of three layers — an inner layer, an outer layer and a middle layer, instead of padding which could make the carrier too warm. The layering gives the carrier the stability of padding but ensures a very good air flow to keep you and your baby at a comfortable temperature while you’re babywearing.
The Jersey option is meant to be as soft as a comfy t-shirt. It sounds and looks amazing but I went for the 3D Mesh as it seems the airiest and with a spring baby, I wanted it to be as cool as possible for the warm spring and summer weather. I also like Mesh as it’s really fast-drying after washing. We have the BabyBjörn Bouncer Bliss in Mesh too and it’s a great material!
