Building a Garden from Scratch – New Build Garden Plans
|Building a Garden from Scratch – New Build Garden Plans
We’ve been in our new build house for a few months now and now that spring is here, it’s really time to get the garden sorted! Currently it’s just a big patch of muddy soil! With three young children, we need something a bit more child friendly and we need it to be ready by the summer.
Our plans are not set in stone yet but we want a functional garden that’s easy to care for. Here’s what we’re hoping to incorporate when we undertake the big garden makeover:
- Lawn for Playing
We used to have quite a large lawn for the girls to play on in our old garden so this is something we’d love to have again. Our new garden is a lot bigger than our old one so we’ll be able to fit in a large lawn as well as other areas in the garden which is nice. The grass is high on the priority list as it needs laying as soon as possible to be ready to be played on this summer.
- Patio for Dining
We have a very small patio area that came with the house but this needs expanding so that we can fit a large outdoor table and chairs set that the whole family can use. We also need to find some suitable garden furniture that we like but let’s get that patio built first!
- Washing Line
Washing is a big part of life when you have young kids! We want to build a path from the house all the way down to the bottom of the garden and have a long washing line that runs along the path to make it easy for me to hang up the washing and to ensure all the washing gets plenty of sunshine and air to dry quickly.
- Garden Storage & Play House
At the bottom of the garden, we plan to build a large shed to hold any gardening equipment etc and we also want to build a small play house joining the side of the shed with some shade for the girls to play in. Here we would also love to build a mini playground with a slide and some swings stood on some play bark.

Those are our plans for the garden. Now we just need some time and some dry weekends to get it all sorted!
