Can you Eat 50 Different Foods in 7 Days? I was challenged to!
Eating well is an interest of mine, though I don’t always eat just good stuff. I love a treat and will have the things I fancy. I don’t believe in depriving yourself — life is too short. What I do believe in is eating a balanced and varied diet.
Taymount Clinic is the world’s first faecal microbiota transplant clinic and experts in digestive health and they challenged me to see if I could eat 50 different foods in 7 days. The Taymount Clinic recommend that to maintain diversity in your gut flora, you also need to have diversity in your diet — which means eating a minimum of 50 foods a week. The more the better.
I was sent a basket of some interesting healthy foods to get me started and a chart to fill in the foods I ate. It’s quite simple but you have to remember to not duplicate things. All types of breads are all under wheat and youghurt, cheese, ice cream etc. are all milk/dairy. You count the ingredient something is made of. All different types of herbs, spices, vinegars and oils could as individuals though.
The challenge was actually easier than I’d expected but we did eat out a few times during the week that I filled in my chart so that will have added some different things that I might not have eaten if cooking at home. I easily filled in my first page of the chart and had to turn it over to continue on the other side.
I didn’t change anything in the way I eat or what I eat so it’s good to know that my natural way of choosing foods is quite varied which is good for my body. Even if some of these foods are chocolate, croissants and ice cream. Balanced and varied, I said.
Do you eat a varied diet? Do you think you could eat 50 different foods in 7 days?
