Encouraging Kids to Play Whatever The Weather | New Gestalten Books

The weather goes downhill a bit during autumn with colder days and more windy and rainy weather. No matter the weather, children still need to play – both indoors and outdoors – and there are ways to encourage this and help children come up with fun ideas of things to keep them entertained even if they’re stuck indoors on a particularly bad weather day. Some kids absolutely adore playing outdoors (my middle girl is like this) and might struggle when the weather is not appropriate to play outside as much as they’d like.

“There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes” is a Scandinavian saying that I don’t completely agree with even though I am Swedish. I agree that the correct gear and clothing is very useful when the weather is cold, snowy, rainy and/or windy but some weathers are unpleasant even if you do have all the right gear and definitely best avoided if you can. That’s when it’s a good idea to have some fun activities to suggest to your kids.

Let's Play Indoors!

The new book Let’s Play Indoors! from Little Gestalten provides exactly this. It’s a book packed of things to do or to make at home.

It’s full of inspiration and step-by-step instructions for the different ideas, crafts and activities. The book encourages children to take charge of how to spend their time playing at home and how to have lots of fun playing indoors.

Whatever the Weather

When the weather is bad, it’s also a great opportunity to snuggle up with some interesting books and Whatever the Weather from Little Gestalten is perfect for this.

It’s a book all about how different weathers work – from fog to thunder and lighting and everything else, complete with colourful, educational illustrations, fascinating facts and anecdotes too. It’s ideal for curious children who want to understand different weather phenomena. I’ve learnt a few new things from this book as well.

These two books are wonderful resources for encouraging kids to play whatever the weather and learn all about it too!
