EZVIZ DB2 Battery-Powered Doorbell Review
|EZVIZ DB2 Battery-Powered Doorbell Review
We’d been thinking about getting a doorbell for a while now as it’s much more convenient that just door knocking, especially if you have a video option that lets you see who is there even when you’re not at home via an app on your phone.
EZVIZ is one of the experts in the smart home security field and they have recently introduced their new EZVIZ DB2 Battery-Powered 2K+ Video Doorbell which is available at a more affordable price than the competitors.
It’s a wire-free design with a built-in battery and lots of features. Since it’s completely wireless, you can set it up wherever you want. The battery can last up to 115 days on just one charge so you don’t need to recharge it very often at all. The design is fully weather-proof too, so you don’t need to worry about the weather when choosing where to install it. You get lots of handy accessories for the installation which is great.
Other features include a wide viewing angle and night vision of up to 5 meters. The doorbell senses movements and starts recording when this happens. You can adjust the sensitivity in the app which is good if you live somewhere busy and you don’t want to be alerted for every little movement. The camera can detect human movements and differentiate these from pets running around or leaves flying about etc. The doorbell has a tamper-proof design so if someone tries to remove it forcibly, a sharp alarm sets off and you are also alerted via your phone. There are also several ring-tones to choose from.
You can choose to store the video on a local microSD card of up to 256 GB (not included) or subscribe to a Cloud storage. There’s a 7-day free trial but after that you have to pay for it, so I think that the memory card option is better and most likely more secure too.
The set up unfortunately took a lot longer that desirable, even with two very tech-minded people doing it. You don’t get a written guide but have to follow the instructions in the app to set it up which were not always clear. The app is not the best either and could do with some improvements. It took around an hour to get everything to connect to each other properly and work through the setting to set it up to our preferences.
There were a few more things that we would have liked to see in the features, like the option to only record when the doorbell has been pressed but that is not possible on this one.
Overall, it’s a decent budget-friendly option for a video doorbell with a camera but the set-up and app could be better and few more options for the settings would be preferred.
