My Five Favourite Things about Spring & Summer
It’s so lovely being in the brighter part of the year. As much as I love the cosiness of autumn and winter, many things are a lot easier during spring and summer. Here are the things that I enjoy the most about these parts of the year:
Getting up when it’s light just feels much more natural than forcing yourself out of bed when it’s still dark. Likewise, it’s so lovely when it’s light late afternoon and early evening as it feels like the day is longer and you have more time to enjoy and time to get things done.
All mothers will agree with me here! With little messy kids, it’s a nightmare to keep on top of the washing during the cold and dark months, but as soon as we get a hint of spring, the washing goes out on the line and we feel the relief. No more damp clothes spread across the house taking ages to dry and adding too much moisture to the house… You can get through mountains of washing on a sunny and breezy day and it feels great!
Children love exploring and playing outdoors and they should. They don’t care about the weather but supervising and joining in with the fun is much more pleasurable when it’s dry and warm. It’s also easier dressing the kids appropriately for the nicer weather than when it’s cold but sun protection does become another concern.
Eating food outside is one of the greatest enjoyments of summer whether you’re having a family BBQ at home, having a coffee in the sun outside a café or having meal and enjoying the view at a waterfront restaurant. The fresh air and sunshine feels amazing and makes the meal an experience rather than just fuel.
I love that there’s less stuff to remember and to carry around during spring and summer. If we go anywhere in winter, we need to find room for all the coats, gloves, hats and scarves if we go inside somewhere and — having to already lug around a changing bag, my handbag, the pushchair and two kids — I don’t really have the capacity to carry any more things. A few sun hats and some sun cream is much easier!
