Geomag Mechanics Loops & Turns 130 Piece Set Review | AD

We discovered Geomag, the original magnetic construction toy since 1998, a few years ago and the brand’s fun and educational magnetic construction toys quickly became a big part of my children’s playtime. Geomag have lots of brilliant sets to choose – many of their classic panels and magnetic rods sets, Geomag Magicube for younger builders (read my review here), and Geomag Mechanics.

In this blog post, we will have a closer looks at a set from the Mechanics range, the Geomag Mechanics Loops & Turns 130 Piece Set. This is our second Mechanics set – we got the Geomag Mechanics Challenge Strike set last year but the kids and I agree that the Loops & Turns set is even more fun!

The Mechanics range from Geomag is suitable for children 7-8 years and above (depending on set). This range combines the forces of magnetism with the world of mechanical construction. The sets are really cool and ideal for curious children who want to understand the physics of how stuff works, while having fun playing at the same time.

The Mechanics sets include classic Geomag pieces – the magnetic steel rods and the steel spheres, with the addition of mechanical elements to create fascinating constructions with moving elements. The range of Geomag Mechanics sets teach mechanical construction and stimulate creativity, inventiveness, and ingenuity.

“Some parts of the structures are able to rotate, triggering chain reactions from the magnetic attraction and repulsion.”

The Geomag Mechanics Loops & Turns set includes 130 pieces in white, green, orange and blue, with the plastic components made from recycled plastic. With these you can build a circuit that is driven by the invisible forces of magnetism and gravity.

Simply follow the instructions in the booklet with steps that are easy to follow. As soon as you’re done, test out your build by dropping the steel sphere in the right place. The magnetic cannon uses the force of attraction to accelerate and push the steel spheres around the circuit – no need for electric motors or batteries!

This is such a fun build to play with and a great way for children to learn the basics of magnetism and how to use these to create controlled magnetic reactions. It also stimulates creativity, imagination and curiosity as children are introduced to the wonderful science of magnetic constructions.

Many of the sets in the Mechanics series can be combined too, with an Easy Combo system that allows children to build different models separately, then combine them with just three moves.

The Geomag Mechanics Loops & Turns set is a very cool set that my 9-year-old daughter absolutely loves!

Collaboration. This set was provided for this review. As always, all my reviews are 100% honest and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
