In time for your summer DIY projects we have an inspirational book to give away. George Clarke, UK architect and TV presenter has signed a copy of his Amazing Spaces book where he shows readers how to turn small spaces into big dreams.
About the book:
“Published to coincide with the second series of George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces on Channel 4 (in autumn 2013), this official companion book shows how unexpected small spaces can be adapted into practical living areas, wonderful retreats or unusual offices. The book showcases the spaces featured in both the first and second series, explaining how each build was achieved. Combining the eccentric and the inspirational with down-to-earth guidelines and information, the book will appeal not only to those dreaming of a getaway but to everyone who wants to make the most of their space at home.
Escapes range from a tiny inspiring beach hut near Bournemouth which cleverly adapts to serve as a lounge, kitchen and sleeping area to a ‘lego’ apartment in Barcelona which is a perfect example of how to make incredible use of every inch of space in a tiny studio apartment on a rooftop. Other amazing spaces include a former underground public toilet now converted into a one-bedroom flat, a caravan now converted as an ice cream van and the Routemaster bus-turned-cocktail bar.
This book is inspiring and practical in equal measure and perfectly feeds the desire many of us hold for a unique and innovative space to call our own.”

Floating shelves are perfect for small rooms because they can hold a lot of things on a wall or in alcoves, or choose fitted, floor-to-ceiling shelves and cupboards that make use of every inch of spare space.
Look for slim, wall-mounted storage, like floating shelves, cabinets and coat trees, to make the most of available space. And in the tightest spaces, wall brackets and hooks are your best friends.
Have a bed with a lot of storage underneath and if a table needed, get a folded one ?
Storage boxes under beds are great.

I like to build storage in to anything I can – within tables, chairs and wall alcoves wherever possible
