All my kids love playing with train tracks and my youngest is the most obsessed! She loves building interesting designs with the tracks and creating long trains that can travel around her track builds. Hape is one of our favourite railway toy brands – they’re great quality and there are lots of fun sets and accessories to choose from.

In this blog post, you can see some great vehicles that can travel on the wooden train tracks – a Hape Inter-City Battery Powered Engine, a Hape Fire Truck with Siren and a Hape Police Car with Siren. Hape railway toys are compatible with most wooden railway sets so you can mix and match with other brands you might have.

• Hape Inter-City Battery Powered Engine

The Inter-City Battery Powered Engine is a battery-powered express train engine and carriage with a passenger with a briefcase. A commuter train like this is a great addition to a railway set. It’s great for role play – make sure you get the passenger to work on time! The train has a roof that lifts up so that you can put him in his seat.

You can add more trains if you want to make a longer train too and the engine and carriage can be separated and reattached easily thanks to the magnetic connectors. The train can move forward or reverse and you can easily control this with the button on top of the engine (this feature requires batteries, not included). There’s also a neutral setting for free-wheeling.

• Hape Fire Truck with Siren

Next up, the Fire Truck with Siren which is a nice set to expand play further. There’s an emergency with a fire! Put on the light and the siren of the fire truck by pressing the blue button (this feature requires batteries, not included) and drive it to the scene quickly! The included fireman can use the hose reel and the movable ladder to put out the fire. The cabin hatch opens too so that you can easily put the fireman in the firetruck and get him back out as needed.

• Hape Police Car with Siren

Another brilliant addition is this Police Car with Siren set. The set includes a policeman and a thief. Great for extended play. The thief is on the loose and the policeman needs to catch him! Put on the light and siren (this feature requires batteries, not included), find the thief and catch him. Once you have caught him, put him in the mobile jail cell and head back to the station. The cabin hatch and cell roof both open up to insert and remove the figurines.
