JillyBeads Review: ‘It’s A Gift’ Necklace Kit & 3 Piece Pliers Set
I was recently sent some goodies from JillyBeads for a fun project — beading! As a child, I used to love creating necklaces and bracelets with beads and when I work with children it’s still something that I enjoy doing with them. I’ve never done proper beading though and with that I mean more complicated designs, chains, rings and needing tools other than scissors for the string so I was quite excited to give this project a go!
My kit of products contained:
- Necklace Kit — ‘It’s a Gift’ Crystal Cascade Necklace £5.50
- 3 Piece Pliers Set — ‘Purple Plierz’ £15.00
- Clay Bead Mix — ‘Fruit Salad’ £0.50
- String Sample — ‘Stretch Magic Elastic’ £2.20 for 5 metres
Here’s the necklace kit. It contains all the materials you need to create a stunning necklace with beautiful vintage toned Swarovski Elements Xilion pendants with the brand new Patina finish. It’s a gorgeous design and it’s not that difficult to make — the main skill you need to master is opening and closing jump rings and attaching fasteners. The kit comes complete with a step-by-step guide which is really helpful for beginners like myself.
To make the necklace, you need some tools like these in this pliers set. This handy kit contains flat nosed, round nosed and side cutter pliers in a compact and protective zip case. There’s plenty of room for more tools to be added to the case too. This set is perfect for when you’re starting out.
Don’t let the sparkling and glittery purple handles fool you — these pliers are proper tools! They are strong and sharp and really good quality. I’m very pleased with them.
Since I’m looking after my child 24/7, I had to split my beading session into two and worked on my necklace over two lunches. I always finish my lunch much faster than my toddler so I took this opportunity to make my necklace.
Once I got the hang of using the pliers and how to best open and close the jump rings and fasteners, it was quite quick and definitely fun. I usually don’t do too well with fiddly tasks but I managed to do this so I’m very happy! Not all of my jump rings are perfectly round anymore but that’s alright — it’s my first time working with pliers.
Here’s the result! A beautiful homemade necklace. This would make a great gift like this or even just the set unmade if the recipient is crafty.
These cute and fruity beads were also in my kit so I took an old bracelet and used some plain black beads from that and made this much prettier fruity bracelet with them and the Fruit Salad beads. This is more like the beading I’m used to and it was very quick and simple. I felt a bit like a child and the bracelet is so cute and makes me smile everytime I see it on my wrist.
This is just my style! I love fun and colourful things, especially for daytime use. It’s perfect for summer, don’t you think?
