The summer holidays are here! The kids are excited and hopefully you are too! The summer holidays are for family fun but, for most parents, they also mean some juggling. Some days will be spent at home and it’s a good idea to have some entertainment options up your sleeve ready to keep the kids entertained. If you’re looking for some new games for your children to enjoy and learn from, you’ll find some excellent options in this blog post.
All of the below games are from The Happy Puzzle Company which is a business that has been going for over 29 years and that specialises in educational games, toys and puzzles for families and schools. The range includes over 300 award-winning puzzles, games, challenges, and puzzle books to enjoy, including lots of games and puzzles that are unique to The Happy Puzzle Company.
Let’s have a closer look at three games from the Happy Puzzle Company.
Meet the world’s first mathematical railway! The Brain Train is a fun award-winning game for one player (or more if you want to play together). The task is to construct the railways correctly by solving maths puzzles. There are 40 graded puzzles to solve and 12 sections of tracks.
Use logical deduction to work out what goes where, then, when you’re done, put the wind-up train on the tracks and watch it speed around the track. It’s lots of fun and children won’t even think about the fact that they’re practising their maths skills! This game is recommended for children aged 4-11 years old. Younger players can do the easier challenges or simply have fun building different tracks for the train to go on.
Garden Maze Genius is part of The Happy Puzzle Company’s The Genius Collection that includes several best-selling and award-winning game (one of which you can see in this blog article). The Garden Maze Genius is recommended from age 5 and above and is a one-player game. Imagine that you are playing with a ball outside and it ends up behind lots of house. How will you get it back?
Roll the four dice to discover the location of two of the houses but, before placing them, consider their direction carefully. Next, position the other houses on the board until you create a route for the ball, then lift the board up (there are grips at the side of the board) and roll the ball back carefully.
This game is a fun challenge that helps children develop their thinking skills, strategic planning, and spatial awareness. There are an amazing 4,096 possible puzzles to solve so plenty to keep children entertained over the summer holidays.
Next up, Zooligans which is a game suitable from age 8 and above, for one or more players. In this game, you get to use your detective skills and practice your speed of thought and visual perception.
There’s chaos at the zoo but what happened? And where and when?
“The zoo closes at 6pm. However, every evening, several of the animals manage to escape from their enclosure and start causing chaos. The zookeepers have hired you, an animal detective, to gather clues and determine which animal is responsible for each part of the chaos, as well as where and when. Your task is to use the clues, together with logical deduction and work out exactly what happened after closing time.”
Pick a challenge card from the deck and look at the clues and try to solve the mystery. Work alone or as part of a team of detectives to unravel the conundrums! There are 60 multi-level challenges so, again, plenty to keep kids occupied. This is a great one for older children to play on their own or together.
