Motherhood: Take the Pressure off with an Organised Approach
|Motherhood: Take the Pressure off with an Organised Approach
As challenging as the initial months of a baby’s life can be, many mums report that the real difficulties come when they return to work. How to stay on top of what can seem to be an impossible workload, and keep both your work and home life in order?
As with many things in life, just a little bit of organisation can go a long way in achieving a productive and relatively stress-free work/life balance. Many excellent resources are available at the best mum-focussed websites, and here we pick out a few of our top tips for establishing order in the chaos.
- Preparation is Key
Anyone accustomed to family life will likely need little reminding that mornings can be the most chaotic time of the day. The stress created by the hustle and bustle of getting not just yourself, but also the kids ready and prepared, can quickly set things off on the wrong foot.
Whilst some degree of rushing around may be unavoidable, a lot of the heat can be taken out of the situation by preparing as much as possible the night before. Make sure all clothes, school uniforms etc are washed, ironed, and laid out before going to bed. If your son/daughter needs to find their shoe/PE Kit, far better to do so the night before than when racing against time in the morning. Add the packing of school bags and preparation of packed lunches to the night before routine, and those stressful mornings may become plain sailing.
- Utilise the Internet
We are now firmly into the internet age, and making full use of the world wide web is becoming the norm. Number one on our list of priorities is online grocery shopping. All major supermarkets now offer a home delivery service, enabling the modern shopper to save considerable time and effort when conducting their weekly shop. Why drive or take public transport to the supermarket when you can shop at leisure from the comfort of your own home, and have the shopping delivered to your door?
- Look Into Flexible Working
All workers in the UK are at least entitled to ask their employers to consider a flexible working request. Whilst not all requests may be granted in full, altering even one or two shifts per week can make a huge difference over the course of the year. Check your weekly schedule and select those times when it would be most advantageous for you to be at home, and take this information to your employer when discussing your request.
Related to the above, always remember the importance of leaving work at work. Not always easy but remember that employers only pay you for the time you spend in the workplace. Your time at home is your time. Mastering the skill of switching off is one of the single best pieces of advice for the working mum.
- Make Time for Yourself
Speaking of your free time, it is important to spend at least some of it doing things that you enjoy, whatever that may be. If you like to have a bet, schedule an hour to take a look at the best betting offers new customers uk, or perhaps schedule a night out with the girls, or a date night with your partner. Making time for yourself may not seem to directly contribute to becoming more organised but doing so can do the world of good for your mood and well-being, putting you in a much more positive place to take on the week.
