My Favourite Essential Oil Uses | AD

Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts that have properties that can benefit us in different ways. Essential oils come in a large variety of options with different properties and scents that have different impacts on us. They can be used for lots of different things – in aromatherapy, topically and around the home, for example. In this article, I will share my own favourite essential oil uses and some of my favourite 100% pure essential oils from Nikura.

  • Homemade Natural Cleaning Products

It’s easier than you think to make your own natural cleaning products at home. For a simple homemade natural surface spray, you only need vinegar, water, baking soda and your favourite essential oils. Fresh scents like lemon or other citrus fruit essential oils work especially well in homemade cleaning products. I also like herbal scents like peppermint, eucalyptus, thyme and rosemary around the home. Essential oils add beautiful scents to homemade cleaning products and many also have properties that make them perfect for this purpose. For example, some are antibacterial, others are antifungal, while others are pest repellent, and some brilliant for neutralising unpleasant odours.

  • Effective Spot Treatment

You can create your own skincare products with carrier oils and essential oils but I love using Tea Tree Essential Oil and adding a few drops to my face cream to treat breakouts or prevent them. I always keep a bottle of this trusted skin-cleansing oil on my bathroom shelf ready to help me when needed. It’s very effective but more gentle than most spot treatments that you can buy from pharmacies and skincare shops.

  • Scents for Health & Mood

Last but not least, essential oils are great for improving you mood and your health. My husband is very sensitive to scents so around the house I choose scents that I know he won’t mind and avoid anything synthetic and anything floral. Lots of people love using a diffuser for essential oils but I prefer natural candles scented with essential oils. Peppermint is one of my favourite scents for this – I find that it helps lift my mood, that it is very refreshing and boosts energy too. Peppermint is also a great remedy for headaches and migraines, as is eucalyptus. Peppermint and eucalyptus are also great for improving breath flow, to help clear airways and aid respiration so great to keep in at all times ready for when someone in the family gets a cold.
