The Owl and the Pussy-cat & The Further Adventures of the Owl and the Pussy-cat Book and CD Reviews
|The Owl and the Pussy-cat Review
The Owl and the Pussy-cat is a beautiful children’s book. The text is Edward Lear’s poem and the illustrations are by Charlotte Voake. By illustrating a classic poem you get a very unique children’s book. The text is so different from other kids’ books, yet fits very well. There are a few lines on each spread and the rhymes are fun for the little ones and the adult reading the book.
That is something that I look for in children’s books: I want books to be fun for the kids and the adult. The text needs to be flowing and the balance of words per page is very important. The Owl and the Pussy-cat has the perfect balance. There’s just the right amount of text and the words are interesting (no baby language!).
The story is a love story adventure (the owl and the cat get married!) and the illustrations are gorgeous and exciting.
The Further Adventures of the Owl and the Pussy-cat Book and CD is a story by Julia Donaldson (author of The Gruffalo) in the same lyrical style as Edward Lear’s original poem The Owl & the Pussy-cat. This time the owl and the pussy-cat are out on new adventures after their gold wedding ring was stolen! Julia Donaldson has done a great job writing a brand new story but still matching the style of the first book.
The illustrations are by Charlotte Voake, just like the first book, and the drawings are just as beautiful!
With this edition you also get a CD with the story read by Julia Donaldson and a fun musical performance of the story by Julia and Malcolm Donaldson. Children love music and hearing their favourite stories in song editions is always popular.
Both these books are wonderful for children and adults to read together. I would say they are mainly suitable for children age 3-6. The books are available from Amazon and all other good book shops!
We were sent these books for this review. As always, my reviews are 100% honest and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
