Review & Giveaway: Cornerstone – A Men’s Shaving Subscription Service
Cornerstone is a shaving subscription service for men. Women can of course use the products too — that’s what I’m doing.
You order your subscription and choose the schedule and which products you’d like and then they’ll arrive at your door as often as you need them so that you’ll never have to remember to buy shaving supplies. This is quite handy!
The products arrive beautifully packaged in a flat box. Everything fits very neatly and the overall impression is very classy and tidy.
The box also contains information about the products, a discount card and a little lifestyle magazine called 15 Minutes.
The British-blended skincare products work together with the German-engineered razor blades to give a smooth and comfortable shave. These are the products:
- Pre-Shave Face Scrub (£5/100ml) to be used before shaving to prevent cuts and shaving bumps. It contains cedarwood and volcanic sand exfoliating grains which help release ingrown hairs, reduce the risk of shaving spots, unblock pores and exfoliate skin for a smooth and clear complexion. It does not contain parabens, alcohol, or microbeads. The grey scrub is lovely to use to create a smooth surface for the razor to glide on. I use it on my legs.
- Sensitive Shave Gel (£6/150ml) is a shaving gel specifically formulated to protect sensitive skin from razor burn. This is something I need! Nearly all razors give me shaving burn on my legs which is very annoying so anything that can help make smooth legs an easier experience is something I want to try. It’s a lovely green gel with eucalyptus oil and ginger extract to give a comfortable and irritation-free shave. Eucalyptus is known for its anti-septic and anti-inflammatory properties which help to calm skin irritation. It acts as a lubricating layer for the razor and allows the blades to glide across your skin smoothly which reduces the risk of razor burn and cuts. It doesn’t really lather but that actually makes it easier to see what you’re doing whilst still protecting your skin. I really like it and so far no shaving rash! There is a foaming product alternative available too if that’s something you prefer.
- Sensitive Cooling Post-Shave Balm (£5/75ml) is a cream that calms the skin after shaving. It also helps refresh it and moisturise it to restore your skin’s natural balance. It contains mint and honey to help soothe and care for your skin. It feels really nice on my legs after shaving and leaves my skin feeling hydrated and soft. It also helps reduce the risk of irritation.
None of the products are tested on animals and they’re all vegetarian and vegan friendly. They are all very unisex and nicely but discreetly scented.
The razor blades come in packs of six (£14) and each head has five very sharp, fine blades that have been optimally spaced to increase shave performance and reduce clogging. They also have an Aloe Vera strip that helps the blades glide smoothly.
“Each blade is made from Japanese chromium steel to reduce micro-corrosion of its cutting edge, and coated in a layer of titanium and diamond grade carbon to ensure the cutting edge stays sharper for longer.”
The razor handle is chrome-plated and can be personalised with your initials. You get it for free with your first order. It’s a really nice weight and comfortable to hold. It looks great too and can stand up on its wide base. Personally, I would like a little bit more texture to reduce the risk of it slipping in wet hands. This is more of a leg-shaving problem, though. You can read more about the razor here.
I’m really happy with this kit and the quality of both the products and the razor. They work really well on my sensitive legs!
You get a blade cover for your razor too which is great for when it’s not in use or when you’re travelling.
