Seaside Day Trip Packing List for Baby and Parents

Last weekend we went on a day trip to the seaside. We tried to keep our packing as light as we could with a 6-month old baby! We did manage to fit all these things into a standard size backpack and had a great family day together in Bridlington. Below are the items we packed (or items very similar in some cases) for our day out:

Playing, Eating & Drinking and Hygiene

With a baby you obviously always need to take nappies etc. Instead of a full changing bag we packed a travel changing mat that holds a few nappies and wipes. Saved a lot of space! Extra wipes are good for all kinds of mess too! Travelling with a weaning baby requires a bit more gear (food, bib, spoon…) than when exclusively breastfeeding and water bottles and/or cups are important when it is very hot like it is now in the UK. A few small toys/teethers and hygiene items are always a must have.

  • MAM Bibetta Ultra Bib Bubbles
  • Baby Frog Natural Rubber Baby Teether
  • OXO Tot On The Go Feeding Spoon with Travel Case
  • Tommee Tippee Essentials First Cup
  • Philips AVENT Natural 260 ml Feeding Bottle
  • Ella’s Kitchen 4m+ Pears, Pears, Pears 70g
  • Munchkin Cool Wrap Bottle Bag
  • Soft Toy from Ikea
  • Nature Babycare Fragrance Free Travel Wipes
  • Skip Hop Pronto Mini Changer Changing Bag
  • Polar Gear Hydro Bottle and Ice Stick
  • Soap & Glory™ Hand Maid™ Antibacterial Hand Cleansing Gel
  • Halo Handy Hygienic wipes
  • Not pictured: Nappies, soothers and a muslin!

Wearing & Carrying

We chose to leave the pram in the car and just used our baby carrier for the whole day. It’s much better when you are somewhere with a lot of steps, small streets, cobble stones and sandy beaches! Plus it’s fun for the baby to see better. Don’t forget to pop on a sun hat! Spare clothes for everyone in case someone spills or has any other accidents… A waterproof wet bag for the dirty/wet clothes keeps your bag clean. Our backpack is a bit simpler than this one but I could not find ours online. Instead I found this one and it’s been added to my To-Buy list. It looks so handy and practical with all the different compartments – perfect for all these baby things! I will buy it very soon!

  • Spare t-shirt for mum
  • Spare t-shirt for dad
  • Sun Hat
  • Jersey Leggings
  • Short-sleeved bodysuit
  • Long-sleeved bodysuit
  • Dribble Bibs
  • Beco Baby Gemini Carrier In Metro Black
  • Baby Waterproof Zipper Bag
  • Mil-Tec Military Backpack

Don’t forget to ensure that everyone has suitable footwear for the activities that you have planned. For the beach, you can’t go wrong with sandals for girls and boys.

Sun Protection & Beach Time

Baby skin is very sensitive to the sun so I always pack sun protection: UV-suit, cap and creams. We all use factor 50 in my family and I always wear a scalp protection spray when I’m not wearing a hat. This one smells like coconuts and Piña Colada – yummy and very addictive! A microfibre towel is light, doesn’t take up much room and dries really quickly – perfect for the beach.

  • Microfibre Towel large
  • Johnson’s Baby Powder – 100g (you can use this to get sand off your and your baby’s feet easily!)
  • UV-suit with hat
  • Malibu Hair & Scalp Protector SPF 15 – Great product that I always keep in my changing bag for myself. Currently on sale for just £2.32!
  • Soltan Baby Suncream SPF 50
  • Garnier Ambre Solaire Sensitive Advanced SPF 50+

That’s it! I can’t believe all these things fit in my backpack now that I see everything together. What do you pack for a day at the seaside?
