Ideas for Fun Things to do Between Christmas and New Year
If you’re looking for ways to fill the gap between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, read on for some fun ideas for families with kids and everyone else. Additionally, the ideas below are all free or cheap too!
- Host a game night or game day. Invite friends and family over to play some fun games together whilst enjoying each other’s company and eating up what is left of all the Christmas treats!
- Make a Christmas tiffin or Rocky Road. Speaking of Christmas treats, if you have lots of Christmas chocolate and biscuits left over (or have picked up some reduced Christmas treats from the supermarket!), a fun way to use them up is to make a festive tiffin or Rocky Road.
- Get creative with your Christmas leftovers. You probably have lots of leftovers from Christmas lunch as well. Think of creative ways to eat everything up to avoid waste and to make feeding the family easier too.
- Make plans for next year. This can be a solitary activity or something to do as a family. Set goals for the new year and make some fun plans for trips and days out to look forward to.
- Clean and declutter. After all the Christmas celebrations and present opening, there’s sure to be a lot of recycling that needs to go to the tip and a lot of cleaning up to do too. All new belongings will need a new home too. If you haven’t decluttered before Christmas, now is a great time to dedicate some time to clearing out stuff that you no longer need.
- Watch films together. The days between Christmas and New Year are perfect for getting cosy and watching films with your family.
- Go for a long walk. If the weather is nice, going for long walks together (or on your own, if you prefer) is also a nice activity. It’s great to get some fresh air and exercise after many indulgent days spent indoors.
- Visit your local garden centre. For a quicker outing that can be done in all weathers, a trip to the local garden centre is a good idea. It’s lovely to have a look around and perhaps enjoying a nice lunch or a coffee in the garden centre’s café.
- Relax. Last but not least, just relax. Sit down with a cuppa and a good book, do a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle, or have a little nap. It’s so important to take time to relax after all the hustle and bustle of the Christmas festivities. Relax, recover and recharge ready for the new year.
