Where to Go on Holiday as a Family with Young Children

It’s that time of year again the middle of the winter  when we start thinking about holidays in the sun and begin to plan our summer travels. If you have young children, you have a few more things that you need to consider before choosing a destination or type of holiday because, of course, babies and young children have different needs and can complicate travel a little bit. It’s definitely still very possible to have a nice and relaxing holiday with kids you just need to choose your holiday wisely.

When kids are young, one of the easiest types of holidays to do is holidaying in the UK by renting a caravan or going to one of the holiday parks but the UK doesn’t usually offer us the consistent, warm weather that we crave, the beaches and swimming fun that is part of a good holiday nor the interesting culture and exciting food of an international holiday.

A proper holiday is one abroad and Clickstay is a great place to find your next one! Two of the best destinations for a holiday for a family with young children are Spain and Portugal for a few very good reasons:

  • Not too Far Away

Long haul flights are not enjoyable with kids as kids don’t like sitting still for very long and babies might struggle with earache and be difficult to settle. Short flights are much easier for families and both Spain and Portugal are quick to fly to, making them ideal for family holidays. The flights are usually not very expensive either which is important as your family grows.

  • Brilliant Family Accommodation Options

There are plenty of great types of accommodation available at these destinations as they’re very popular with holidaymakers. I always recommend self-catering when you have young kids as it’s easier to stick to your kids’ routines when it comes to sleep and meal-times which usually makes the holiday more relaxing and calmer for the parents. Check out Clickstay villas in Spain and Clickstay villas in Portugal for luxurious villas with everything you might need for a relaxing family holiday in the sun.

  • Great Beaches

If you choose a destination near the coast, you can enjoy stunning beaches in Spain and Portugal. The sand is beautiful, and the water is usually very pleasant to swim in. Spain is known to have the most beautiful beaches in Europe and even some of the best ones in the world and Portugal has beautiful beach coastlines too, often near interesting rocky cliffs that provide a different look, moreover, it’s so easy to travel to these destinations because of cheap car rental in Portugal.

  • The Food

The Spanish and Portuguese cuisines are popular among British tourists fresh seafood, paella and tapas! and many kids enjoy these foods too. If not, most restaurants cater very well for pickier eaters as well and when you choose self-catering, you can stock up on fresh produce from local shops and markets to enjoy at your villa. Fruit and vegetables are much tastier in sunny countries like Spain and Portugal! Personally, I’m also a big fan of the strong coffees on offer and the selection of delicious cakes and ice creams I know my kids agree about the latter too. Mums and dads can also enjoy local wines some of the best wines are produced in this part of the world.

Do you agree with me, that Spain and Portugal make perfect holiday destinations for families with young children? Have you been with your family yet?
