A Family Day Out of Fun & Food at Valley Centertainment Leisure Park Sheffield
The weekends are for doing fun things with the family and spending quality time together. Most weekends, we just have days at home playing, crafting and watching films or go to a local park if the weather is nice, but sometimes we like to go all out and have a fun-filled day out together.
Luckily, we live close to Valley Centertainment Leisure Park here in Sheffield. Centertainment offers lots of activities and restaurants for couples, friends and families with children of all ages. Venues include Cineworld, Monkey Business, Hollywood Bowl, Laser Quest and Paradise Island Adventure Golf. There’s a dozen or so places to eat — you’ll find Italian food, American burger restaurants, Mexican food and much more.
Yesterday, we had a family day at Centertainment and it was just what we needed after being snowed in most of last week.
We started the day by heading to Cineworld for a family film. We love watching films and we chose and early screening of The Jungle Bunch to suit our children’s schedules. It’s a really nice cinema — large and clean and with impressive screens and comfortable seats. Cineworld is the UK’s number one multiplex cinema chain and shows all the latest films as well as Bollywood movies, 3D and digital films, live sport and opera performances. The Sheffield branch also offers IMAX films and 4DX which sound amazing but since we were taking our young kids (aged nearly 2 years and 4 years), we couldn’t choose one of them on this occasion.
The kids’ morning screenings at the weekends offer great value at just £2.50 a ticket which is great when you’re taking the whole family. I have to say that the volume is really loud at Cineworld though which some children will be sensitive too. If you’re taking very young children, I suggest packing ear defenders so that they can enjoy the film fully.
As we live nearby, we headed home to let the kids have a nap after the cinema and then, at around 5 o’clock, we headed back to play golf at Paradise Island Adventure Golf. We had been once before but this was the first time our youngest was joining in. The kids had lots of fun exploring the fun of adventure golf and learning their techniques and my husband and I played as much we could whilst looking after the kids. The girls loved all the details and decorations of the courses! So exciting for kids!
Being a foodie family, the highlight and perfect ending of the day was a visit to Chiquito — the UK’s biggest and most loved Tex-Mex restaurant — for a family meal. We invited my father-in-law and sister-in-law to join us after the golf and had a lovely meal together. None of us had been to Chiquito before so we were all excited to see what it was like.
The atmosphere and environment was lovely — the décor was rustic and quirky and the restaurant was buzzing. The staff was really friendly, accommodating and informative — I was really impressed with the service! Oh and the food! We had lots of yummy dishes and drinks. Let’s talk more about them!
For starters we ordered Jalapeño Poppers and Halloumi Skewers — both delicious! The waiter arranged for the kids’ meals to be served at the same time as our starters which was perfect as it allowed the children to start their main meals sooner.
The kids were also given some entertainment packs to keep them happy while waiting for their food. The girls had pizza and side salad and chicken skewer and chips with side salad. The kids’ meals also include drinks and dessert for just £4.95.
For my main I had the Halloumi Burger that came with chips and coleslaw with a side of guacamole. The burger was great — very generously sized and very delicious! It even had nachos on it!
The rest of the party had ribs and chicken and ribs, all served with chips, onion rings, corn on the cob and coleslaw. Everyone was very pleased with their choices and meals.
There were different sauces on the table to add to your meals too and they were very nice. There were mild ones and hot ones.
We were all very full after our mains but we had promised the kids desserts for being well-behaved…
Our eldest had a Toffee Popcorn Brownie with ice cream and our youngest shared Churros with us parents. The in-laws went for the Chocolate Orange cake that they shared. We all enjoyed our desserts too.
We had a lovely time at Chiquito and we’ll definitely be back again! If you’re based in Sheffield, definitely check out Valley Centertainment for fun things to do with the family.
We were invited to visit Cineworld, Paradise Island Adventure Golf and Chiquitos at Valley Centertainment Sheffield free of charge in exchange for this review. As always, all my reviews are 100% honest and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
