Book Review: Mabel Jones and the Forbidden City by Will Mabbitt
Mabel Jones and the Forbidden City is the second book in the Mabel Jones series by Will Mabbitt. The first book in the series is called The Unlikely Adventures of Mabel Jones and was very well received by young readers.
In the second book, Mabel Jones is ready for her second unlikely adventure even though she’s been trying to avoid them after already surviving a pirate kidnapping, a milk-drinking contest with a giant grizzly bear, and a stint inside the belly of a whale… When Mabel’s baby sister is taken from her crib by an evil witch, Mabel has no choice but to follow them to the jungles of the Forbidden City — a dangerous place filled with deadly monsters and poisoned Jelly Babies.
In Mabel Jones and the Forbidden City we meet some familiar faces from the first book but also a brand-new set of characters including an arrogant fox, a ferocious millipede and of course — the diabolical witch. To save her sister, Mabel will have to make the ultimate sacrifice — can she do it?
The book is full of fantasy adventure and excitement but is also funny and very witty. Kids love it and so do adults. I love it when books can be enjoyed by parents and children together as reading together is such an important bonding experience that will get children even more excited about reading great books. This book is sure to keep you interested and keep you laughing! The illustrations by Ross Collins are great too and can be found throughout the book.
I would recommend it to boys and girls aged around 7-10 to read on their own or together with their parents. You can buy it from Amazon or any other good book shops that sell children’s books.
