Book Review: You Have Not A Leg To Stand On by D. D. Mayers
|Book Review: You Have Not A Leg To Stand On by D. D. Mayers
Let’s start this review by saying that this book is amazing! It’s a real life book by D.D. Mayers where he documents his extraordinary life. At the age of 32 — healthy and living in a Kenyan paradise happily married to his beautiful wife — he’s in a tragic car accident that leaves him paralysed from the waist down and he’s destined to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair which is naturally something that has a huge impact on his life — physically and mentally.
This book gives us an emotional tour of his life, through childhood, becoming a young man, his travels around the world with his wife and much more. The stories are extraordinary and so interesting but what makes the book so special is the gripping storytelling by Mayers. You can feel his despair about being in a wheelchair and all that comes with it but he still manages to tell his stories in a witty and amusing way. The writing is so gripping and entertaining and you just want to keep reading and reading and learn more about Mayer’s life, experiences and feelings.
I received this book a couple of months ago and would have loved to sit down and read the whole thing in one sitting because I love the writing so much. With a toddler to look after 24/7, it has taken me a bit longer to read the book but simply because I don’t get many chances to read in peace.
You Have Not A Leg To Stand On is the kind of book that I will always remember and will keep recommending to my friends and family for many years to come. It’s truly remarkable! The book is available from Amazon.co.uk and all other good book shops.
