|How To Create The Perfect Chill-Out Zone In Your House
Making your home more relaxing can be a mammoth task, especially when decorating and DIY are activities so often synonymous with stress and hassle. When it comes to creating a chill-out zone, you need to keep your eyes on the prize because by following a few easy tips, you can enjoy a snug and relaxing space you’ll never want to leave. Want to know more? I’m about to reveal all!
How To Create The Perfect Chill-Out Zone
- Keep the Lighting Dimmed
Atmospheric lighting is key when you want to feel chilled. Bright overhead illumination is great for focused tasks, but when you want to sit back and relax, turn off the main light, flick on a lamp and revel in the gorgeous glow. I would look at pairing your lamps with designer coffee tables, too, for a seamless blend of style and practicality. If you’re lounging on a cosy sofa, you don’t want to have to get up to turn on your lighting, but with lamps on coffee tables, you can lean and get straight back to relaxing.
- Good music only
When chill is the order of the day, don’t risk an unfortunate song coming on the radio and snapping you out of your bliss. Instead, include a record player or MP3 dock so you can curate the perfect playlist for your snuggle session. I don’t think much can beat a beloved vinyl, but remastered downloads sound amazing through quality speakers and there is the added bonus of not having to flip over a record when you can simply put your iPod or phone to good use.
- The smell of success
Relaxation – and I mean real chilling out here – requires a multi-sensory approach. With a coffee table already in place, you have the perfect surface for a scented candle, oil burner or diffuser, so take advantage of it. The scent you choose will be personal preference, as what relaxes one will not work for everybody. Fresh linen scents work wonders for me, but lavender, chamomile and even something seasonal, like pumpkin spice, could be ideal for you. Just remember to not let it get too overpowering or your chill could turn into a headache.
- Be selfish
As a rule, I don’t advocate selfishness, but when it comes to being able to properly chill out, you need to think about yourself. You need all your favourite items close at hand. And your favourite coaster should migrate, as a gentle reminder to pour yourself a cup of the good coffee that you love. If you manage to include any storage, with a coffee-table drawer for example, maybe some indulgent treats could be hidden in there, too. You deserve them!
- Cosy is king
Finally, the most important tip: make your space as cosy as is humanly possible. A sumptuous sofa is always a good idea, but if you are short on room, deep-filled beanbags or even floor cushions will work well. Add in some blankets and maybe somewhere for your furry friends to curl up as well and you’ll soon find that your new chill-out zone is everybody’s favourite part of the house.
Chilling out and getting cosy go hand in hand, and I highly recommend making your relaxation zone a multi-sensory space that caters to your personal tastes – it really is the only way to ensure total bliss. Take my advice: light a candle, put on some favourite music and hunker down for a seriously indulgent afternoon of you-time in your very own chill-out zone.
