How to Make Hot Dog Spiders for Halloween

My kids love doing seasonal activities and eating seasonal food – so do I! Food is a big part of our celebrations throughout the year and at the top of the list when we’re looking for Halloween activities to do.

Halloween is a favourite for my kids and they love decorating the house, dressing up as something spooky and eating themed food.

Ye Olde Oak, the UK’s favourite hot dog brand, challenged us to try one of their spooktacular Halloween recipe for kids and of course that was something we wanted to get involved with.

We picked the Spider Dogs recipe which is really simple to do and the kids can get involved with the process too.

Here’s how to make these fun hot dog spiders for Halloween:

Ingredients:

  • 1 tin of Ye Olde Oak classic hot dogs
  • Small potatoes
  • Something to use for eyes – googly eyes or raisins for example

Method:

  1. Empty hot dogs, including brine, into a sauce pan and heat gently for about 5 minutes.
  2. Cut the hot dogs in half, then slice into thin strips
  3. Boil or mash potatoes, shaping them into small round potato balls
  4. Stick each slice of hot dog into the sides of the potatoes, creating the spider’s legs
  5. You can also add eyes using any ingredients, veg, herbs, even cheese! Or use googly eyes or raisins like we did.
