Learning Resources Gears! Gears! Gears! Super Building Set Review
I’m a huge fan of toys and so are my children (of course!) and I especially aim to source toys that are educational as well as fun for my three daughters. Learning Resources is the perfect place for me to find these as they’re an educational toy company that focuses on making educational toys fun. They have many products that range from ages 18 months to 12 years and that focuses on different educational insights.
We have a brilliant craft tools and pen organiser from Learning Resources and this Gears! Gears! Gears! Super Building Set (RRP £46.50) which is our first Learning Resources toy.
Gears! Gears! Gears! is a range of construction sets based around gears. The colourful and fun sets provide open-ended play opportunities that encourage creativity and problem-solving skills.
“Construction sets will build confidence, perseverance and self-esteem, preparing children with the real-world, early STEM-supporting skills necessary to let them take ownership of their learning and succeed.”
There are lots of different sets to choose from, with different themes (space, flowers, robots, sweet shop, monkeys, castles and more) and also more basic sets. The sets can be combined with each other. We have the large Gears! Gears! Gears! Super Building Set which includes 150 pieces (gears, connectors and interconnecting base plates). It’s a great value set with plenty of pieces to really get into playing with Gears! Gears! Gears! and have fun creating different builds. The bucket makes a handy storage place for the pieces too.
My two older daughters are 5 years and nearly 3 years and they love construction toys like Lego, Lego Duplo and K’Nex so I knew they’d love Gears! Gears! Gears! too. I was right — they have so much fun coming up with new ideas and building the suggested builds on the tub.
Not only are building set like this great fun for kids, but they also have loads of developmental benefits, including problem solving skills, hand eye coordination, and teamwork! They’re also a toy that you can keep for a long time as they’re suitable for a wide age range.
This robot is one of the ideas from the tub and was a fun design for us to build together.
As you can see in these photos, my girls love coming up with new ideas for how to use the gears. My 5-year-old started by making a horizontal build with the gears in rainbow colour order (as she prefers things to be!) — above, left — and my toddler is currently obsessed with making carrots — second photo below — and also put the carrots together to make a carrot tree — above, right.
This set really provides so many different ways to play and is a great toy for developing STEM skills and learning while you play.
This is another popular build by my toddler — rainbow stacks! The colour selection in this set is perfect for rainbow designs!
