Lu Over the Wall – In Cinemas Now! Watch the New Official UK Trailer

Lu Over the Wall is a magical and sweet mermaid tale by Masaaki Yuasa. It’s a beautifully flowing watercolour of kindred spirits that are overcoming hatred. This anime film has won Annecy’s prestigious Cristal for a Feature Film and is in cinemas here in the UK from today!

The style of animation is colourful and eccentric – it’s a visual experience that charming and fun especially with all the music and dancing that’s going on too!

The synopsis:

“Can a shared love overcome the fear that divides us?

Following his parent’s divorce, high schooler Kai moves to his father’s home in a rural fishing village, whose superstitions about mermaids force the young man to repress his desire to make music. When his classmates force him to join their band however, their melodies attract the affections of Lu a mermaid whose joy will reveal that superstitions are just that and being different doesn’t mean we’re not the same.”

It’s a touching story about friendship and the stereotypes of our communities. It covers important topics but is so joyful and cheery at the same time thanks to the animation, vibrant colours and music choices.Lu Over the Wall - In Cinemas Now! Watch the New Official UK Trailer A Mum Reviews

I believe that it’s just available in Japanese with English subtitles at the moment which is not a problem for me. Younger children who can’t read quickly enough will struggle to follow the story though, unless they speak Japanese, of course. The film has been rated PG by the British Board of Film Classification so it’s suitable for children but I do recommend considering your child’s ability to read subtitles before watching it in the cinema.Lu Over the Wall - In Cinemas Now!
