Prepare Your Garden for Summer + a VonHaus Pressure Washer Review
|Prepare Your Garden for Summer + a VonHaus Pressure Washer Review
It’s that time of year again… spring is here which means summer is just around the corner too and, in this country, that means it’s time to get the garden ready for summer! That will mean different things for different people and gardens. For us, it’s a big job as we have patio and grass to lay in the garden of our new build house. We have started planning a bit and tidying things up ready for the grass to be laid by my husband (hopefully this month!).
So, how can you prepare your garden for summer? Below are some steps that are essential to me.
- Plan any updates
Even if you’ve lived in your house for years, there might be some updates that you want to do. Have a think about this and make a plan for what you would like to achieve. Maybe you’d like to add a little play area for the kids or start growing your own vegetables? Or build a decked area or maybe an outdoor pizza oven? Or the time may have come for a tree stump removal. Whatever the goal is, make a project plan to ensure you can achieve what you want before the summer is over!
- Plant flowers
Decide which flowers and plants you’d like to grow this year and plant them accordingly. Different seeds need to be planted at different times of the year so read up on this and get started so that you can enjoy a beautiful blossoming garden this summer.
- Clean your patio
If you have patio stones or decking, these areas need cleaning after the winter. It can be a tough job when done manually but you can make it a breeze if you use a pressure washer. It’s a quick and easy way to clean different things in your garden and it’s quite satisfying seeing the dirt wash off using just water (and pressure!). If you scroll down a bit, you can read my review of the 1600W Pressure Washer from VonHaus.
- Prepare your garden furniture
Another yearly task is to prepare your garden furniture for use. If they’ve been stored away, get them out and assemble them if applicable. Then give them a good clean (the pressure washer can work well here too!) and protect wooden furniture with a good oil. Remember to wipe off any excess and leave the furniture for a few days before using them to avoid any unwanted oil stains on your clothes!
- Cut the grass
Now that the weather is warming up, the grass is growing again and is probably due its first trim sometime around now. Get that done too and your garden should be pretty much ready to be enjoyed this summer, whether that’s the kids playing in it, family weekend BBQs or garden parties with friends.
- Wait for the sunshine…
When you’ve done all your garden prep, just wait for that sunshine — it will come!
VonHaus 1600W Pressure Washer Review
A pressure washer is a great tool to have when you have a house. It makes lots of jobs easier as the pressure washer can blast away things like dirt and grime (and mold and moss!) effortlessly in seconds.
Our main use for a pressure washer is to clean our patio (which is currently just a few slabs as we’re in the process of designing our garden) and to wash the car too.
This is a compact and lightweight yet high-impact 1600W pressure washer from VonHaus that is great for many jobs around the garden. It’s got a working pressure of 90bars and 330 litres/h water flow and comes with a fully adjustable nozzle and an attachable detergent bottle for enhanced cleaning (great for when you’re washing the car!).
It’s got a long 5m hose and 5m power cable which makes it easy to use anywhere as you don’t really need to worry about where the plug socket and tap are as there’s plenty to reach around the house.
We have tested this pressure washer on our patio slabs and our car and it works very well on these areas. It wasn’t complicated at all to set up though we nearly removed one of the filters as it wasn’t completely clear in the instructions which plastic caps to remove. Other than that everything was very straightforward.
We love the compact size of this pressure washer as it means it’s easy to move around when you’re using it and to store it away when it’s not in use.
We also tried to clean some of our bricks on the outside of the house, but the pressure wasn’t quite enough for that job. For bigger jobs like that the more powerful VonHaus 2200W Pressure Washer would be better as it’s designed for tougher jobs.
