However, is it really that good? And more importantly, is it worth the hype (and the price tag)?

Well, we recently visited Red Dog Saloon in Hoxton to find out for ourselves. From first impressions and flavour-packed bites to family-friendliness and overall value, this is our honest take on the full experience.

Whether you’re planning a date night, a casual family dinner, or just hunting for your next BBQ fix, we’re here to tell you if Red Dog Saloon lives up to its saucy reputation. Let’s dive in!

First Impressions of Red Dog’s American Vibes with a UK Twist

First of all, walking into Red Dog Saloon feels like stepping into the American South, right here in the UK. The rustic wood interiors, neon signage, and blues-y rock soundtrack set the mood instantly.

It’s warm, casual, and a little bit gritty in the best way possible. Plus, you’re greeted by the scent of smoked meats and a laid-back atmosphere that feels equal parts diner and dive bar.

There’s a distinct Americana vibe, but it doesn’t feel out of place. If you’re looking to come in with kids or catch up with friends, the setting strikes a good balance between fun and relaxation.

The Menu With Smokehouse Favourites and Spicy Surprises

Red Dog Saloon’s menu is like a love letter to Southern-style BBQ. It’s packed with amazing flavours and smoky goodness, all cooked in their award-winning smokers.

You’ll find all the classics, like slow-cooked ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, and towering chuck burgers, alongside fiery wings and loaded fries that come with a serious kick.

Spice lovers will appreciate the heat levels, especially in the Nashville Hot Chicken. There are also some thoughtful extras like mac ‘n’ cheese, pickles, slaw, and many other classic sides to round things out.

They’ve also got regional-themed BBQ platters, which are perfect if you’re having a tough time choosing. Plus, while it’s a meat-heavy menu, there are a few vegetarian choices too, making it versatile enough for mixed groups.

What We Ordered (and Loved)

We went all in on the BBQ classics at Red Dog Saloon and weren’t disappointed. The standout was the smoked beef brisket; it was tender, juicy, and packed with flavour. The St. Louis-style ribs also had a satisfying char and fell off the bone effortlessly.

Plus, we tried the Nashville Hot Chicken burger, which delivered just the right level of heat without overpowering the flavour. The sides didn’t disappoint either: the creamy mac ‘n’ cheese and crunchy slaw were perfect companions to the smoky mains.

The portions were very generous, and everything came out piping hot. We also paired the food with some great cocktails and beers. Overall, it’s comfort food at its finest – messy, satisfying, and seriously delicious.

Is It Suitable for Kids and Groups?

Red Dog Saloon may be known for bold BBQ flavours, but it’s surprisingly welcoming for families, too. The casual, spacious layout means there’s plenty of room for prams or highchairs, and the lively atmosphere helps mask the usual kid noise.

While there isn’t a dedicated children’s menu, there are many mild, shareable options like tater tots, fries, and mac ‘n’ cheese that little ones will enjoy. The staff are friendly and accommodating and happy to tweak orders when needed.

It’s also a great spot for larger groups. If you’re looking to enjoy relaxed family meals, birthday outings, or casual get-togethers over hearty food, this might be just what you need.

What the Service and Atmosphere are Like

The service at Red Dog Saloon was upbeat and efficient, matching the restaurant’s laid-back vibe. The staff were also friendly without being overbearing, quick to seat us, and happy to offer menu recommendations, which was especially helpful given the spicy options. Our food arrived promptly, even with a busy crowd, and everything felt well-timed.

The atmosphere is a good balance between buzzing and comfortable, with background music and chatter that adds to the energy without being overwhelming. It’s the kind of place where you can take your time, get a little messy with your BBQ (especially the ribs), and just enjoy good food in a relaxed, no-pressure setting.

Our Final Verdict

Do we think Red Dog Saloon is the UK’s best BBQ joint? It certainly makes a strong case.

With its smoky, flavour-packed meats, lively atmosphere, and generous portions, it delivers an authentic American BBQ experience that’s hard to find elsewhere.

The menu is bold and varied, the service is friendly, and the vibe is comfortably casual, whether you’re dining solo, as a couple, or with the whole family.

While purists might debate the “best” title, Red Dog Saloon is definitely a top contender for anyone craving no-nonsense, hearty BBQ. If you’re near one of their locations, it’s absolutely worth a visit!
