Summer Essentials for Kids – Things to Pack for Days Out & Holidays
|Summer Essentials for Kids – Things to Pack for Days Out & Holidays
The summer holidays are when most families have time for lots of fun days out and/or holidays where they can enjoy each other’s company and hopefully good weather too. Whether you’re heading to the British seaside, a sunny holiday abroad or going for local days out, there are a few things that are good to have with you when you have young kids. In this article, I’ll share our summer essentials for kids and all the things that we take with us on summery days out.
- Wear the right clothes + Take spares!
Wearing the right clothes for the weather and the activities you’ll be doing is a great way to keep everyone comfortable. I usually tell the kids to wear leggings or shorts and long-sleeved thin cotton tops as these offer sun protection while not being hot. Everyone always wears a cap or sun hat too. If you’re in need for any summer clothing for your kids, you can check out https://www.soharpiehaysie.com/ for some great new finds.
For babies, toddlers and young kids, spare clothes are standard but for long days out it’s always worth putting some spare clothes and socks in the car for older children (and parents) too. You never know – anyone could get really wet playing on the beach, be sick, or spill lots of ice cream on themselves, etc.
- Sun protection
As well as clothing and caps that protect from the sun, we always pack a sun cream that the whole family can use and sunglasses for everyone too. The kids have these great sunglasses from Suneez Kids. You can read my full review here. They’re virtually unbreakable, really comfortable to wear, offer great protection and look really cool so the kids love wearing them.
- Snacks & Drinks
No matter how long your outing is, kids get hungry very often (and so do I!) so I always pack some snacks like cereal bars, crackers, raisins, or fruit pouches that the kids can easily eat on the go when hunger strikes. This helps keep everyone in a good mood and buys us time to find somewhere to eat if we’re planning to eat out.
We always take our insulated water bottles from Hapi Bottles too – they keep our water cool and are really easy to drink out of. You can enjoy 15% off Hapi Bottles with my code AMUMREVIEWS15.
- Entertainment
Usually, the day out is the entertainment of course but there are always moments of waiting and some kids struggle with this. Some small fidget toys are perfect for this.
For the travelling part, I highly recommend taking a Yoto Mini player for stories or music or a device that lets your kids watch something. This is handy for longer car journeys and flights especially, but they can help keep the peace for shorter journeys too. Don’t forget to pack children’s headphones for these activities!
BuddyPhones POP Fun are kid-proof and kid-safe headphones that can be used with a wired connection cable or as wireless headphones. They offer great sound but also protect the delicate hearing of children with volume limiting capability. Available in a selection of colours and customisable with stickers that come included with the headphones. They’re available to purchase from buddyphones.com and onanoff.com
With the above gear, you’ll be well-prepared for family days out and family travel this summer! Preparation is key and will allow you to enjoy your family’s company to the fullest.
Don’t forget the staples hand sanitiser, reusable wipes and a small first aid kit!
