Time For Extreme Decluttering for a More Minimalist Home
Last year as our plans to move started, we also started reducing our belongings to make a move easier and to have more space for the kids to play. We got rid of a lot of stuff — took a bunch of things to the tip and donated lots of things to charity shops. We thought we did really well decluttering our lives and homes but this year I’m on a more extreme mission to declutter even more towards a more minimalist home and lifestyle.
Last year, I got rid of most of my books but left some. This year, only my absolute favourites and the ones I will actually read in the near future will stay. Last year, I got rid of half my clothes. This year, only the things that really get worn frequently enough will stay and the same goes for the kids’ clothes. Last year, we got rid of most of our DVD films and kept the ones we like in a compact disc storage case and left a few favourites in their original boxes. This year, the rest of the films will lose their cases and I’m even dismantling my DVD boxset collection (which I love!) to a storage case as well to get three large empty bookshelves back.
I dream of space, drawers that close easily because they’re not crammed full, empty surfaces that are available to use, not having to move things to get what you need… Less is more and this year we’ll be having a lot less!
When we move — hopefully by the summer! — it should be quite easy to pack our belongings into a van and start fresh again. I can’t wait!
