Warning – These Popular Aldi Sweets are No Longer Vegan
|Warning – These Popular Aldi Sweets are No Longer Vegan
It’s a sad time for vegans and vegetarians with a sweet tooth – and anyone else who’s choosing to eat gelatine free sweets for other reasons. Earlier this year, Aldi had an amazing selection of vegan sweets. The vegan sweet selection from Aldi had grown with new exciting additions just a few months ago. Sadly this didn’t last. A bunch of the new and popular Aldi sweets are no longer vegan.
Find out all the details of which Aldi sweets that used to be vegan now have a new recipe that includes beef gelatine. The article also highlights which vegan sweets Aldi have kept as they were.
Which Aldi Vegan Sweets are No Longer Vegan?
The new recipe with beef gelatine affects the following sweets:
- Aldi Dominion Teeth & Lips
- Aldi Dominion Gummy Mix
- Aldi Dominion Jelly Cherries
- Aldi Dominion Cola Bottles
These were highly rated by many as some of the best vegan sweets, especially the Aldi Gummy Mix which is similar to Haribo Starmix.
While these were still vegan, my husband, who eats regular Haribos, said that these were the best gelatine free jelly sweets that he’d ever had. Additionally, he said that they tasted the most like regular Haribos out of all the vegetarian jelly sweets that he’d tried. Sadly, the Aldi Gummy Mix sweets are no longer vegan so the search for vegan Haribo style sweets starts again.
When did the recipe change happen?
I most recently bought the Aldi Gummy Mix sweets at the end of April and the pack that I bought was vegan. After doing a bit of research online, it looks like people started noticing the new recipe with gelatine in July, after the sweets had been missing from many stores for a while.
Some shops will have had old stocks lasting longer than other shops so it’s possible that you might have seen the vegan versions available for longer depending on your local Aldi store.
What happened to Aldi’s Gummy Mix?
You can see the new recipe’s list of ingredients in the photo above. As you can see, these Aldi sweets are no longer vegan as they contain beef gelatine.
Which Aldi Sweets ARE Still Vegan? (For Now)
If you’re looking for jelly sweets suitable for vegetarians and vegan sweets, Aldi still has some great options that are still vegan (for now, at least).
Below is a list of Aldi vegetarian jelly sweets that are currently gelatine free and also vegan. I have not included hard sweets are these are often vegan anyway. Always check the packaging for the “Vegan” label or “I’m Vegan Friendly” label to make sure as the recipes could change for these products too.

For me, Aldi Dominion Wendy Worm Sour-Tastic are some of the best vegan sweets to buy from Aldi. I love the sour addition to jelly sweets and the worm shape is fun also. I am always on the lookout for other vegan, gelatine free sweets that have that delicious fizzy and sour tingle, so please share in the comments below if you have any recommendations.

The Aldi Dominion Leo Lion sweets are chewy fruit gums and a great option if you’re looking for vegan foam sweets similar to Percy Pigs.

If you prefer harder fruit gummies, then these Aldi vegetarian jelly sweets might be for you. Aldi Dominion Mini Gems and Aldi Dominion Fruit Gums are both still vegan-friendly and made with real natural flavourings.
Gelatine Free Haribo Sweets
Aldi also sells branded sweets, including vegan Haribos and Chewits, so do keep an eye on the sweets shelf in Aldi to spot more vegan sweets.
Conclusion
It’s very sad that some Aldi sweets are no longer vegan. As you can see, there are still many other vegan sweets available to purchase from Aldi, but it’s of course disappointing when you find a new vegan favourite product for it to have the recipe changed to include animal ingredients.
Since the recipes can suddenly change, I recommend checking for the vegan labels on the packaging every time you purchase a product, unless it’s by a brand that only makes vegan products. It’s sad that this has to be done but that’s the world we live in.
I hate vegan sweets, they have a weird rubbery taste and texture
